Problem is they get a bunch of people with no money or academic interest and set them up with student loans which have little chance of being paid back in a reasonable time (if ever). The school gets their money, the student winds up with a lot of debt and quickly quits. I guess the governments is starting to look into these schools but who knows if anything will ever be done. |

Britains sad state of edjukation
A High School near where I live & adjoining the Park.., The Worlds First Public Park , had recently redefined it's self as a 'Sports Academy' - I suspect purely to get around some red tape & be entitled to additional funding. This often means school sports are taking-up areas of the park for their own use, littering the place with crisp packets & the general inconvenience of not wishing to go near yoofs for fear of heckles of 'peado' But calling itself a Sports Academy !? you should see the size of some of the crisp munching, soft drink chugging fatties Of course their own playing fields were sold off 20 years ago |

Citius, Altius, Forius...Vomitus?
Next up on the parade of the perplexing: competitive eating.
Who is the strongest, the fastest, the fairest, the most graceful? Yes, these are areas of human life that have bred competitive events since time immemorial, and certainly the traits which these competitions judge are traits that have value in the human society. But competitive eating? Who can stuff their face with the most amount of food in the shortest period of time? Of what possible value is this skill to the human race? And what sort of admiration should we give to a person whose main achievement in life is that he can eat 68 frankfurters (with buns!) in 10 minutes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joey_Chestnut Even further, there apparently is a society devoted to preparing rules and issuing their official imprimatur on competitive eating events! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna...etitive_Eating The main rule apparently being that vomiting while competing results in an instant disqualification… Any competition in which vomiting is a reasonably foreseeable outcome begs the question: why would I want to watch this? Or to paraphrase the Olympics…. Citius, Altius, Fortius…Vomitus? Why..why…why…

Why do we have to put up with horrendous American brats like Justin Bieber to Honey Boo Boo(Alana) on our television screens? We don't foist Jedward on them-although that might not be a bad idea-real payback that. These programmes that they make with these total non-entities are a waste of public money and because of satellite and the fact they are cheap to import we start getting kids in this country acting like that-where will it end? I might add I neither watch this Honey Boo Boo(IT appeared in a trailer for her dreadful programme on TLC) nor do I like Justin Bieber.

My why, why, why rant concerns the local drug store. If it didn't say on the sign it was a drug store you would never guess it. Approximately a third of the floor space is taken up by cosmetics, shampoos, deodorants and the like. Another third to food and food related items. Of the remaining space most of it is for the 5 check out counters, of which only one is ever open, and digital items like cameras. No more than 5% of the total floor space is used for vitamins and drugs. |
