What about Joe Cocker...

He needs half a bottle of whiskey to fix his voice before he sings.
But nevertheless he has one of the most distinctive
and original blues voices.....

Gene Simmons, and Ace Frehely.I doubt there are many bigger Kiss fans than me, but neither have great vocal range. The trick, I think, is that they mastered writing songs that were catchy, and matched the voice that performed them.

Also, Joey Ramone. HUGE Ramones fan, but the above is true for them as well.

Can you imagine any of the classic, distinctive vocalists ... Bob Dylan, Joe Cocker, Roger Chapman ... going on something like The X-Factor? They probably wouldn't even make it past the auditions as everyone has to sound the bleedin' same these days!

Kelly Jones from Stereophonics has quite a gruff singing voice but strangely enough he is one of the best singers I've ever heard perform live.

Jarvis Cocker, not the greatest vocalist in the world but his voice works on the songs that he writes. In fact Common People is probably one of my favourite songs ever:-

Btw, the keyboard player is the daughter of a friend of mine, and yes I definately would!

Tony TS Mcphee (Groundhogs)

Excellent guitar player, but at times hard to understand a word he is singing.

Ol' Weird Neil is probably the most awkward guitar player I've ever seen. When Neil inducted the Pretenders into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he played with them in their segment. Chrissy Hynde is an adequate guitarist, but she looks comfortable with the instrument in her hands. Neil looks like he's strangling the neck of the guitar to get the notes out. But, hey, it works for him.
