Check out the girls as well,all those fit,tall,slim blondes cycling round the Dam,however make sure you don't get knocked down by a tram as well,as your attention is drawn elsewhere

you got it wrong

its a whole district for selling communist made lightbulbs, seems there is a surplus of them since the berlin wall was pulled down and sold to collectors

Remember EVERYBODY rides a bicycle here (Sometimes at breackneck speed (I know I do)). There are designated pathways just for bicycles (Called "Fietspad"). Pedestrians walking on the fietspad cause a lot of aggravation with the locals and they are not afraid to express their feelings. Stick to the sidewalk or, if you're renting a bike (Highly recommended), keep to the right. And look out for the tramrails, they should always be crossed at a right angle lest your frontwheel gets stuck.
Chilling in the Vondelpark can be great fun, but stay away from the central part of the park, around the main pond, there can be huge crowds and you have to watch out for dog poo. There are a lot of quiet places such as the rose garden or the Blue Teahouse ("Blauwe Theehuis") which has a terrace on the second floor with a nice vieuw and great rolls. Check out the open air theatre in the centre, there's a nice refreshment stall called 'the Vondeling' and the stage features lots of free shows (often in Dutch, but hey, when in Amsterdam..) at unpredictable hours but there's Programs posted at the entrance.
There's another open air theatre in "Het Amsterdamse bos" (a humongous park which is well worth the trouble of getting there) which features (Dutch) plays. Google "Bostheater". It's about a half hour on bike and watching a play in the open air is something else. Hugely popular so be there early.
I don't think Paradiso or the Melkweg need introduction for the music lovers, lotsa nice concerts, prices vary but it's worth it.
One of the coolest cinemas in the world, "Tuschinski", is located near the Rembrandtplein. Try getting a peek inside (entrance to the sides) or better yet: Catch a movie and prepare to be boggled.
I have no experience with prostitutes (apart from a friend of mine ending up behind the glass) but I'm told about a quarter of the girls there are not volunteers, if ya catch my drift. The government is working hard on that. A lot of shady clubs have been shut down and turned into fashion shops (not a big improvement if you ask me).Prostitutes have there own union (the red thread or 'rode draad') and there are some real lookers. Remember a girl might refuse to do business with you. If so: Play nice and take it like a gentleman.
