Depends what you're looking for, of course. The Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt's House and the Van Gogh museum are all very good for art lovers. For bars, Dutch beer is a bit rubbish, but lots of places sell good Belgian beer and the Dutch don't tend to mind if you ask for it, being generally laid back about these things...

It used to be that the police left the Red Light District after midnight, so you need to be particularly careful then.

Stay away from the girls in the windows. They tend to be tourist traps and not particularly attractive.

You might wish to try a brothel. The only one that I can recommend (yes, from personal experience) is Societe Anonyme. It is an unassuming place, a door on the street, no windows, nothing that would shout brothel.

Upon entering I was greeted by the Madam who was tending bar. She introduced 4 ladies to me. One was young - maybe 19 and very sweet. Another was probably Surinamese, another and older woman (perhaps in her 40s) and the last was a pretty blond in her mid-20's. Order a beer and the Madam will explain the rules to you and quote a price.

As you stand there the ladies will give you some glances and some smiles and then you can muster up the courage to tell the Madam which one you would like. You then step into a bedroom for about an hour.

She will offer you a shower, inform you that she demands the use of condoms, and for a few extra dollars she will allow you to kiss her (this might change depending upon the woman). The kissing experience was not particularly erotic. She just allows you to kiss her and she doesn't really kiss back. She also informed me that she won't do anal (that was fine because neither did I). After that, she will show you a very good time.

I tipped her at the end. This is going back a little more than 10 years ago. I can't remember the total amount that I spent but it was probably between $300 and $500 dollars, including the tip.

The place was clean and I felt comfortable in that she insisted on protection. It alleviated my concern about disease.

Would I do it again? Well, I'm married and love my wife but if I were single and going through a dry patch, I don't see why not.

If walking through the red light district watch out for pick pockets. If you want to go to a sex show, you should be able to negotiate the ticket price. Keep in mind that once you enter, they might not start the show until they have a certain number of people in the audience. You could be sitting there a while. But seeing a live sex show is a unique experience - not necessarily the greatest - but, nonetheless unique.
