Might be exactly like that over in Mods country for you.
But on this Septic Isle debit cards only have a limit (Or overdraft) of what`s been agreed upon. Although if you decide not to have an overdraft option (Like what I did). Then what you've got in the account is all that`s available to spend.
As with loose I've a debt card which is primarily the only card I use and where me dosh is kept.
Aside from the thousands monthly paid into my Paypal account from V.E.F of course . That accountant Mal then transfers to the Cayman islands and manages in mystical mysterious manners

Nah, I meant the limit is or was on those Tap and Go machines where you just use your debit or credit card without swiping it or entering a PIN number, as in the actual purchase price is no more then $100, don't know, never used one, I love cash

I just received my new card. Contactless limit on it is 30 GB Pounds. Don't know what it was on the old card as I am a cash person. Prompts the question though, can I use it in France, Germany etc; and what would the limit be in Euros?

That was not always the case though. Many years ago when Switch was a popular debit card there were flaws. Sometimes it took a few days, especially at weekends for the debit to be authorised. This meant that you could actually withdraw more than you had in. For example if you had £200 in the bank and used your debit card for £150 in theory you have £50 left. However because of the delay if you then used it again for another £150 it would often give it to you as it still seemed you had £200 in the bank. Many people who were wild with their spending found this loophole and abused it. This was because paying the overdrawn fee was still cheaper than a pay day lender or similar at the time. Things are different now though and the payment, or pre authorisation of funds is immediate.
