Well, this is annoying. After being able to get in last night (my time) I tried to get here again this morning and got the same "Can't find site" error. I went into my browser history and opened by CP from my last session here to get in again.

To an 8.8.8.8 or an 8.8.1.1

What does that do Explain it to me like you would to an idiot
The internet uses Internet Protocol to move data from one computer to another. To find and identify a specific computer IP addresses (e.g. 109.201.152.100) are used on low level.
Since these numbers are hard to remember, the Domain Name System was invented. This works like an intelligent phone book. If your local phone book does not know the number, it asks another, bigger phone book for an answer, which in turn asks other phone books and caches the answer for some time.

Your computer asks your router. This is why you have the 192.168.0.1 in your screenshot. Your router then asks your providers phone book.

This decentralized system with caches has many advantages. But one disadvantage is: What happens when a phone number changes? The old number was stored in many intermediary phone books. It takes some time until all intermediaries are up to date.

By using the google DNS you use one of the biggest and most up to date phone books of all. Setting the 8.8.8.8 bypasses all the intermediary outdated phone books. Using google DNS also circumvents simple content blocking.

I had some privacy concerns about using a google service for this. But it seems that google does not use the data it collects from DNS users (yet). But this is still very sensitive data. The DNS server knows what sites you visit.

So I am better off replacing 192.168.0.1 with 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. , is that correct ???

You should add both addresses as this specifies a secondary DNS server in case of primary server failure. Removal of the 192.168.0.1 address will force your system to use the Google DNS servers first by default.

If we knew VEF's numeric IP, just typing that in to your browser should work to get to the main page shouldn't it? (Hint, hint....)

Nope. We run multiple servers with a special setup for added security and protection against people with "bad intentions".

After changing DNS settings, trying to visit the Classic Pornstars forum still redirects me to the front page. I can access page 3 (still in browser memory, but with current updates as of this AM) but page 2 or 1 will do the redirect.

Question

I figured it was the Russkies stealing all of those router IPs earlier this week.

...apologies to all of our distinguished Russian friends.
