I mean is it just me, or was anyone else under the impression that sporting events were meant to be competitive? You know, 'hail the conquering hero' winners and losers. All that stuff.

Trick is to find something you enjoy, are reasonably good at and do the very best you can. These kids will one day find out it was a sham and that we all have to compete to some extent and take it on the chin when you fall short. But there is huge satisfaction in knowing you tried and did your best. I was just about a county class sprinter and one of my most prized possessions is my county bronze medal for the 4x100 relay. No golds, no individual medals but I helped the team and took at least one podium finish. Happy with that! |

I love the idea of anybody being appointed to a role because of merit, not to fill a quota to have the appearance of doing something good.

Today's pile of bovine feces finds us yet again in academia, and again in California.
California State University Los Angeles recently rolled out segregated housing for black students. This comes about nine months after the school's black student union issued a set of demands (including segregated housing) in response to what its members contend are frequent “racially insensitive remarks” and “microaggressions” (there's that word again) by professors and students. They got their wish. The group also demanded a $30 million dollar scholarship endowment to aid black students, three new black faculty counselors, a new anti-discrimination policy and cultural competency course for faculty and students, and finally, a meeting with the president for them to discuss the fulfillment and implementation of each demand. The story was reported by a college watchdog group here. I don't even know where to begin with this one. After years of equality, civil rights, affirmative action, tolerance and whatever else, some groups still think they are more equal than others and therefore deserve special treatment. The sad thing is that in our politically correct hell, they get it. What's even worse, is that they demand the school teach a subjective cultural competency course.. not sure what the point is but I'm sure it's along the lines of making sure these snowflakes have a safe zone wherever they are on campus. Imagine, if you will, if a white student group demanded segregated housing for themselves.. or even for a different "group" of students... outrage aside, the campus would still be on fire.

All this no winners therefore no losers attitude is why kids are screwed in the head these days. They have been mollycoddled from birth to leaving school and then suddenly the real world hits them. They don't get the job they wanted and expected because guess what, someone better than them applied. This is something they have not experienced and cannot handle it. Then they find out life is full of winners and losers and taking part counts for shit at the end of the day. They then get addicted to drugs or alcohol because they cannot cope with life.
Life whether we accept it or not is survival of the fittest. Second place is the first loser to quote the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. |

Although on a positive note, an acquaintance of mine who owns a large electrical firm tells me that in general, work experience kids and apprentices they take on seem more well rounded and mature than 'we were at that age'. Perhaps there is some method in the madness.

here we go again
Once again, California-- once again, a liberal arts college.
Pomona College (Claremont, California) welcomed it's freshman class this year with posters in the dorms giving instructions on “How to be a (Better) White Ally”. The posters state white people should “acknowledge your privilege” and “apologize if you’ve offended someone". If that weren't enough, the posters lecture “understand that you are white, so it is inevitable that you have unconsciously learned racism. Your unearned advantage must be acknowledged and your racism unlearned.” Further, the poster claims that white people should just listen rather than explaining their own perspective. So, according this school, all white people are racist and should just shut up. No exceptions. If that still weren't enough, the posters goes on to state that “social justice is about BOTH elevating oppressed groups and simultaneously unpacking the privilege of dominant groups. These aspects are equally as important!” The school even sponsors events that white students are not allowed to attend.. the irony being that the school's website states “Pomona College seeks to maintain an environment of mutual respect among all members of its community” and that discrimination on the basis of race “destroy[s] the foundation for such respect and violate[s] the sense of community vital to the College’s education enterprise.” What bullshit. What hypocrisy. Before anyone whines, it's true that nobody is forced to attend this school. This is, unfortunately, not an isolated incident. Claiming that all whites are racist is in itself racist.. and to combat this perceived racism, their plan is to practice reverse racism, censorship, and exclusion. If you're interested, the story (with pictures) is here along with supporting links to the school. It looks like the new norm is for those who feel oppressed (real or imagined) is to make sure everyone else feels the same. Social justice is a dangerous and scary concept.. especially when it comes down to who gets to decide what's fair.

I think its far easier these days just to be un-pc. Anyone trying to please everyone all of the time will simply give themselves ulcers and heart problems due to the stress it causes. Better just to piss everyone off as it saves a lot of time and hassle.
On a side note the Chinese don't seem to be bothered by pc crap. However I am not sure if this is intentional or just a case of lost in translation. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-37298803 |
