Comic book artist Steve Dillon dies age 54
Steve Dillon, the legendary British comic book artist, known for his work on Preacher, Punisher, and 2000AD's Judge Dredd has died aged 54. His brother Glyn confirmed the death on Twitter, saying his "big brother and hero" had died in New York City. Dillon was a prolific artist who began professional work at age 16, drawing for Marvel UK's Hulk magazine. He was best known for his US collaborations with writer Garth Ennis, creating classic cult comic titles. In his Twitter profile, Dillon, originally from Luton, describes himself as: "A comic book bloke. Co-creator/Artist of Preacher. Co-founder/Editor of Deadline magazine. Artist on Punisher, Judge Dredd and many others."
He was born in Luton in Bedfordshire in 1962. When he was 16 he embarked on his first professional job, drawing the character Nick Fury for Hulk Weekly. In the 1980s his career started to take off and he regularly contributed to Doctor Who Magazine, creating the character Abslom Daak. More work followed and he was on the comic anthology Warrior from its inception in 1982. He also drew for the British sci-fi and fantasy comic 2000AD, where he was perhaps best-known for his work as an artist on Judge Dredd. Dillon arrived in the United States in the late 1980s, where some of his most popular strips were created. The Hollywood Reporter says it was at DC's Vertigo imprint that he collaborated with author Garth Ennis, first on the critically acclaimed Hellblazer and then on Preacher. Vertigo Comics paid tribute on Twitter, saying: "We lost a giant among creators and artists today. He will be missed by all of us here."

Member of ‘Chicago 7’ Tom Hayden Dead At 76
He was one of several protesters arrested and charged with incitement and conspiracy during the Democratic national convention in Chicago in 1968.
Veteran social activist and politician Tom Hayden, a stalwart of America’s New Left who served 18 years in California’s state legislature and gained a dash of Hollywood glamour by marrying actress Jane Fonda, has died aged 76, according to media reports. Hayden died in Santa Monica, California, after a lengthy illness, The Los Angeles Times reported on its web site. “A political giant and dear friend has passed,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti wrote on Twitter, adding “Tom Hayden fought harder for what he believed than just about anyone I have known.” Hayden, who forged his political activism as a founding member of Students for a Democratic Society, which stood at the core of the 1960s anti-war and civil rights movements, was principal author of the group’s revolutionary manifesto, the Port Huron Statement. The University of Michigan student ventured into the Deep South, where he joined voter registration campaigns and was arrested and beaten while taking part in the “freedom rider” protests against racial segregation. Hayden, however, became perhaps best known as one of the “Chicago Eight” activists tried on conspiracy and incitement charges following protests at the turbulent 1968 Democratic National Convention. He was ultimately acquitted of all charges. A New York Times book review of his 1988 memoir, “Reunion,” one of more than 20 books published under his name, called Hayden “the single greatest figure of the 1960s student movement.” Outliving contemporaries Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Eldridge Cleaver and Huey Newton, Hayden remained active in left-wing politics well into the 21st century, posting on Twitter just a week ago. Winning election himself to the California state Assembly in 1982, and then the state Senate a decade later, Hayden went on to serve a total of 18 years. Later he became director of the Peace and Justice Resource Center, a nonprofit left-wing think tank devoted mainly to analysis of continued U.S. military involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, drug policy and global poverty. Hayden was married to actress Jane Fonda from 1973 to 1990, with whom he had two children. Midway through their marriage, the couple graced the cover of People Magazine. In later years his writings were published in national publications including The New York Times, the Boston Globe and the Denver Post. He served on the editorial board and was a columnist for The Nation magazine, and was the author of more than 20 books

I remember Dead or Alive and I absolutely hated that tune back then but Pete Burns was pretty weird-however he totally changed his appearance later with massive lips and just looked bloody awful. I wasn't sure if he was trying to be more feminine than masculine but it is a shame that he has died at what is considered these days an all too early age. I suppose nowadays You Spin Me Round(Like a Record) is considered a classic of the 80's.

Jack T. Chick has died.
Chick owned his own publishing company, Chick Publications. Which Chick used to publish his own comics describing his own evangelical fundamentalist Christian views. His work and his views were to be frank hugely controversial. |

That fucking asshole. I remember several friends of mine in the 80's whose parents forbade them from playing Dungeons and Dragons because of that Chick tract. He was also anti-Catholic, anti-gay, anti-evolution, and anti-pretty much anything fun. I only wish Gary Gygax had outlived that old fart so he could have spit on his grave.
