Default Day of reckoning for gunman in Christchurch mosque terror attacks

On Monday, 528 days since a terrorist gunman carried out mass shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, he will come face to face with his victims and their families.

This is the day when sentencing begins for Brenton Harrison Tarrant, 29, on 51 charges of murder, 40 charges of attempted murder and a charge of committing a terrorist act in a hearing due to start at 10am in the city’s High Court.

The Australian national, who entered surprise guilty pleas in late March, could become the first person in New Zealand to be jailed for life without parole.

I hope he lives to be 120 and has all those years to stare at nothing but concrete and metal bars...

This sentencing was a foregone conclusion, this was for the families to get an iota of closure through impact statements.

But now the N.Z. taxpayer carries the burden of keeping this p.o.s. behind bars & alive. However one 7.62 round could solve that problem, and I'd be all too happy to buy said round...

Yes the figure of NZ $1.8 million per year to keep him locked up has been touted....he's 29 years old, current male Australian life expectancy figure is 82.5 years....or 81.66 if you use the NZ male figure-so he'll cost us the best part of 100 million if he's actuarially compliant....well they never said justice was cheap...think how much good hemp rope 100 million buys you...

WTF are they doing, hand feeding him grapes and giving mani/pedi's????? To lock Tarrant up in perpetuity will be very expensive. He is currently costing just over NZ$4,930 a day due to the extra levels of security, considerably more than the average of about $338 for a standard prisoner.

Put him in general population and fix that problem in a day.

A prisoner swap with Australia has been suggested...

Fuck that, a .22 round bounces around inside a skull and is way more painful. Just sayin. Plus you can get better value for your dollar.

---------------

That said it brings up the whole issue of privatizing prisons. It's basically a blank cheque for these fuckers that are as crooked as the prisoners they house.

For fuck sake even wars are contracted out to these mercenary types these days, like Blackwater and they are robbing taxpayers blind with the blessing of politicians that get their cut.

Good point re: the .22 CCM. In my imagination I may have been a tad fixated on the 7.62 exit wound

I don't know what to think, if the money is worth making him suffer for a very long time, if we did it my way which would be a bit more brutal than what will happen.

Either way, some victim impact statements

If you really wanted him to suffer, consider his apparent horror of brown people/Muslims and lock him in a cage with some burly Muslims who, like you, enjoy anal.

Pull him out of the cell when it is clear the blood loss and shock are about to take him off, send him to the infirmary for some blood plasma and butthole stitching, give him a few weeks to recover, then lather, rinse and repeat.

Would you be happy to pull the trigger too? I wouldn't - it'd make me as bad as him
