Regarding the whole helicoptors thing.
Every time a chopper takes to the air and deafens everyone for miles around all the good folk of Hereford say "Arrrr, her's an SAS chopper on a top secret mission no-one know about."
Thank goodness we don't know anything about these things

Have you noticed in modern parlance the way people start a sentence with the following:
"If I'm honest..." so you're a liar are you?
"I've got to be honest with you..." with others you are a liar?
"To be honest..." as opposed to being dishonest??
"Obviously..."(attributed to footballers when it isn't at all, because we don't know how they feel, think etc until they tell us, they think we do

)
"Well..." I think we're all guilty of doing that one.

"Yeah, no..." well either it's yes or no, it can't be both, otherwise you are saying the following reply is contradicting your original answer.

Don't people know how to speak anymore, I just find so irritating that the English language seems to be mangled up and twisted out of all use...any other country would be up in arms but we (apart from Stephen Fry-types) don't seem to care.
What happened to "by enlarge" or "looking at it this way..." etc?

I thought that the phrase was 'by and large ' - no ? I do agree with you - particularly when microphones are shoved under the noses of sports people, some of whom probably really, really don't want to talk to a reporter.
