Fun facts: Jean Claude Van Damme got taken to court by some never-was guy who appeared in Cyborg, probably a throwaway character JCVD beat up. Basically it was over Van Damme not being safe in fight scenes and stuff, one of the character witnesses was the guy in the first gif, who plays the main character Jason's father in the movie. He complained that Van Damme was unsafe despite director Corey Yuen's instruction to be careful. A couple takes of that kick in the GIF had JCVD kicking the guy in the throat and face, he was supposed to kick him in the chest, as shown. The hairy martial artist in the same movie, backed up JCVD, claiming he can do fight scenes, he can handle his business and such. I bet the court case was dismissed, but it's so comical, trying to mooch off JCVD's money, note this court case came up 6 years after No Retreat No Surrender's release, which was 1986, three years after Cyborg, 1989, by 1992 Van Damme was on top of the world, making tons of money, so yeah, cash grab attempt.

Another fun fact, in the part where he kicked the black guy (legit kickboxer Pete Cunningham, super impressive record of 49 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw), Van Damme legit knocked him out...twice. They reshot the scene, because Van Damme broke character after the first time, checking to see if Cunningham was alright. Watching this movie again a few days ago really made me appreciate the martial arts fight scenes a lot more than the first time, but it doesn't change the opinion that the movie's hilariously bad.
