Default Contest Winnings Something for Nothing.

A friend of mine recently won nearly 250k at one of the casinos near where I live. Has anyone ever won a big jackpot at a casino or by entering a contest or sweepstake and if so how did you win?

Default Curse of the lottery!

Is directly proportional to the amount you win...

I was playing Keno like I did every Tue. night in my bowling league and all my numbers hit!!! Not enough to retire, but enough to get me 100% out of debt with a little surplus to get things going again.

Anyway, I redeemed the ticket at the lottery office and was driving home with a nice four-figure check sitting on my passenger seat.

As I approached the intersection of a divided highway, an idiot in the lane to the left of me sped up and tried to cross in front of me (unsuccessfully) to make (I guess) a right hand turn. He caused me to veer a little right and I jumped the median, took out a wooden pole holding up a sign and clipped a guy who (I kid you not) just picked up a new car at his dealership.

My car was totaled and I had to use my keno check to purchase a new one. I had no fault insurance (due to the low value of my paid-off car, and, being in Mich.) which entitled me to only $500.00 claim.

No injuries, fortunately, but debts accumulate a little (big) thing called interest.
Anyone else got a similar or better experience?

I won about $1500 one day at a local Casino - Harrah's a few years back. It wasn't the amount I won as much as it was how I won it. I played a machine called Zeus where it is possible to win up to 100 free spins. This is incredibly unlikely as five "thunderbolts must come up in order for you to get the 100 spins. I hit the 100 spins twice!! I was only playing with fifty cents per spin though. The funny thing is when I hit the first time an attendant I guess started lurking around me. She said he had heard that the machine was "malfunctioning" This was the cooler in the Casino. I told her it wasn't and if she would mind leaving me alone while I played my 100 x 2 spins. Another thing about the win is that I had ditched work that day and had just stopped in for a lark. Great day.

My biggest win EVER, $15.00. That's right an entire $15.00. However I went with a buddy to Vegas when I was younger and he hit $5,000.00 playing $50.00 on roulette. We has a great steak dinner, front row at Gallagher and blowjobs at a club after. He even had money left over.

I won $140 at a casino near me. I also won $15,500 on Jeopardy! in 1994.

Default Slots have been very, very good to me!

Talking about casino's, I was visiting a friend who was a cocktail waitress at one and played slots in her section.

On a quarter slot I hit for 4050 credits and cashed out. ($1012.50)

Not ten minutes later, on a dollar slot, I hit for $720.00 dollars.

That was a good night. I even gave her $100 for a tip.

(99.9% of the time I actually leave with less than I went in with.)

£550 is the most I have ever won, that was on the lottery here.

However, a guy I knew in London, he won on the lottery twice!

First was £250k. He's a family man, so debts paid off, and a few things for the family, a holiday and a new car for the missus to take the kids to school in etc. They were ecstatic.

Nine months later they won £4.4million!

It didn't change them. they did up the house - he was a builder, so their own house was a wreck!. They had a car each. But he was much the same afterwards. A pint in the pub after work, then home to play with the kids. He was still a builder too!

It is nice that a win like this goes to nice people!

This post is not about winning, but the futility of wasting one's money on the U.S. state lottery. My Mom and Dad spent one dollar every week for 10 straight years trying to win the "Lotto". They never even won three of the seven numbers. This means that over 10 years they spent 520 dollars and never won any money. I see this kind of thing all the time now in supermarkets. The U.S. lotto now have these machines which people can use to put money into them and they get a scratch card. These are small cards with spots on the card that one scratches off and you might see a word saying "you won". You turn in the card and you can win anywhere from 10 dollars to 5,000 dollars. I once asked a woman who spends 10 dollars every week to get 10 different cards if she ever won. She said once she did win 5,000 dollars, but it took her a year to do this and she actually spent more than 5,000 dollars to win, which means that she did not actually win anything. She just broke even. What a d...n waste!!

Many years ago (before the Lottery) over here in the UK we used to play the Football Pools. I won twice, once with 22 points (out of a max of 24) and won about £4200. Which paid for a deposit on a house and a new car, and a few weeks later I got 23 points, and won about £60 as thousands got 23 points that week. I have also won the bottom prize (£10) on the Lottery about 6 times, and got 4 balls once and won about £70. I also won in a syndicate at work and shared about £2k with 8 others.
