My point of view changed 30 years ago, when I travelled for the first time in Amsterdam.
I travelled to Paris, Brussels and then Amsterdam by car with 2 friends during the summer holiday.

Amsterdam was the coolest city of the three cities... free of cars and with friendly people.
When Paris and Brussels were far more brutal with stressed and more unfriendly people.

Are there really too many bikes in Amsterdam?

High civilised cities like Amsterdam, Basel, Bern, Copenhagen demonstrate that having a lot of cyclists and pedestrians create a more friendly atmosphere than having a lot of motorists.

In Switzerland you get more an more people who reach 30 years old and don't pass their driving license. They don't need it.

If I only had to work in an office, I could throw my driving license to the garbage. I've sold my personal car 20 years ago and saved a looooooot of money.

Works for some - but, for me, my whole 40 year career necessitated driving. And now my mum would be housebound if I did not have a car.

I often think that the driving test is the only exam really worth passing. My driving licence certainly opened up more opportunities than my degree.

But to make it clear, I do walk or take public transport whenever feasible and, in London, it is much less hassle than driving.

Chicago has a very good transit system. There are city buses, the subway, Metra(Metropolitan Rail) which is mostly trains going to the suburbs, but it also has trains that cover most of the south side of Chicago where I live. There are also subway trains that will take anyone to O'Hare International Airport. The problem with some of these train systems is that the companies are starting to eliminate ticket machines at local stations. Everthing has become computerised, and they expect riders to buy tickets online. It used to be so convenient to buy a ticket from a machine at a local station, but they are all gone now. I used to take the trains all the time , but now I have switched to buses. There is a bus stop just at the end of my street. I just use my "Ventra" card. The "Ventra" card is an electronic fare card. I just tap this screen near where the bus driver sits and if it says "GO" then my fare has been accepted and I can take my seat. The convenience of this system is that I can add money to my Ventra card at various stores.

Chicago Transit Authority was indeed very good, but they soon became just Chicago. RIP Terry, what a player.

For me, most cities with a very good transport network, have usually had a serious issue, fire, bombing during a war etc. so the clearance had already started. Apart from London that is. No room now, the land is too valuable.

It is often accredited to Mark Twain.

Interestingly his name comes from the days of the shipping on the Mississippi, they used a lead to check depth, when the mark on the lead reached a certain point it was called the twain.

A few days ago, someone I know reasonably well, decided that it was time to educate me about animal welfare overseas and sent me a video attachment. What was in the video was so unbelievably horrific that I had to stop watching it. I'm not going to describe the content, except to say that it brought tears to my eyes seeing people (in the Far East), casually doing absolutely apalling things to living animals. Annoyed that I was sent this stuff? Well yes, to be honest. I'm not especially hard, but don't normally come apart in difficult situations, although this was truly shocking stuff to look at that I found pretty upsetting. And worst of all, it brought out the desire in me to kill people like those in the video.

Yes, and we are supposed to "respect other cultures".

Well, when they show some f*cking respect, maybe I will too.

I'm tired of all these big boob models who don't want to show vagina.
What is this? The 1950s?
This is what annoys me most
