Tits? Tanks? tough choice, I do know they're not interchangable..
WWII I like the Soviet stuff best. Meanest kid in the showroom is the JS2. At 45 tons it's about the same weight as the Panther, with similar mobility, but with 50% thicker armour and a 122mm gun. They built nearly as many of these babies as Tigers. Downside was the two part ammo and crew of only 4 meaning the commander had to double as gunner, a system which has pervaded into modern Soviet designs.

Friend of mine who used to drive tanks in the army said the Challenger 2 is the worlds best all round tank. A jack of all trades tank. He thinks as little at 20 years we'll see very high tech tanks with magnetic railguns, lightweight armour, much higher speeds and camoflage that digitally changes over the surface of the tank based on the colour temprature of the surrounding area.

There's nothing wrong with two-part ammo - actually it's three-part if you want to make it sound worse. But shell casings are a pain in the *ss, and with a bigger gun they make storage & handling problematic in a limited space
These days they have 'combustible casings' and more powerful propellant, a much more elegant solution |

German Panzer IIIs
Obsolete within a fews years of the WW2 starting but a very useful tank chassis which derived the Stug III tank killer. A very mean looking beastie.

if you look closely the ring of small holes around the muzzle are actually the rocket exhaust ports!! It was for use against fortifications and other armored buildings much like the 290mm 40lb Petard mortar some AVRE Churchill s carried. They were muzzle loaded and spring fired creating 20 tons of recoil force. Last edited by deefer; May 5th, 2012 at 12:19 PM.. |
