Why should I give it a rest?

Instead of the Trump-lovers bashing Clinton / Obama as a means in defence of their hero ~ perhaps they should concentrate on his successes

True, and as I said I don't care for Trump personally. I do like several of his policies.

What I reacted to is bashing him for doing exactly the same thing other Presidents do as a matter of course, such as visiting disaster areas. This smells of hypocrisy.

There's plenty of other things you can smack him down for.

I hear you about Afghanistan. It is noteworthy that the British Empire abandoned its attempts to conquer it it 1881. More recently the Soviet Union failed in its attempt to turn the country into a "socialist republic" during the 1980s.

There are some promising signs. The Ghani government has actually prosecuted and convicted some prominent figures for corruption. The military may be gaining ground in securing the country. But, you are probably right that what Afghanistan really needs is for all the foreigners to leave and let the tribes sort things out for themselves. They seemed to be doing mostly OK before the Soviet invasion.
