Default Bunyip

Now here is one that is really gonna blow all your socks off

The legendary Bunyip , a supposed mythical creature, but I'm not so sure....from my hometown paper

Quote:
Another resident of Geelong claimed that he mother had been killed by a Bunyip at Barwon Lakes, just a few miles from Geelong. There are also reports of another local Geelong woman being killed at the Barwon River where the barge crossed to South Geelong.
Yet another local Aboriginal was said to have shown several deep wounds on his breast which were made by the claws of a Bunyip he came across at the Barwon River.
There are several noted disappearances of persons from Lake Modewarre, which many say were the work of the Bunyip.
Many Australians now do not believe in the Bunyip and disregard it as being purely mythological. There are some though, who do still believe in the Bunyip. The Bunyip is quite the celebrity, being touted in children's books, as toys and even making it on to television shows and movies.

I have a documentary film about these critters, and during the filming, both the Dr. making the film and his assistant were stung. Both knew what to do and were able to be saved, but they were given the full dose of morphine that they could be given, and were still screaming!! Anymore would have killed them.
The assistant was in hospital for 2 weeks. When asked about the pain from 1 -10, she said 11!

It's because we're great believers in irony and possibly derived from the rhyming slang that many of the older generation thought funny. 'Blue' also sounds a lot cooler when shouted out in an Aussie accent!

We (well most of us) had ancestors sent from the old country, as punishment, which may also have something to do with it?

True story. I had a mate years ago, bit of a surfer. He spent months in Queensland just being a beach bum and sleeping in his van, sometimes outside, eating Mango's etc, that grew wild where he camped and partying. Generally the seawater temperature for this region is about the same as the air temperature. Warm.
This is punishment?

Bring it on.

You're forgetting these little buggers

Aussie weather.... hmmm ... what about the 99,999% of the country we haven't seen?

Life in the city can be extremely good. But anywhere else I think you have to be tough

We read about the floods, but most of the place only gets half a mm3 rainfall every gazillion years. If you can live from that, you are tough, imho

You guys are pretty well briefed.

From memory the last two tend to be around in the Top End in the summer months, which is why it's a good idea not to swim in the sea up there between October and April.

Something else to avoid in the tropics is a chance encounter with one of these b*!@%rds. If I'm going to cark it, just about the least preferred option is getting into a Death Roll with a bloody croc.

They are a protected species too.

If you're going to camp out in the Top End, be careful.

This might be off topic but do you guys get Paul Henry's morning show in Australia. Let me start by saying I would not watch his show but I love bloopers on Youtube and got linked into his bloopers a couple years ago; very funny.

What struck though is that he seems to get away with cursing, then apologizing for the curse but also cursing again in the apology. Do New Zealand and Australia have lax broadcast laws; In the US Henry would be fined heavily for each curse.

He kept purposely mispronouncing a woman's name as Dickshit, he kept saying shit over and over and another hostess talks about "freeballing"; all very funny but that would not last long in the States?

It's the Aussie version of that much loved British delicacy Marmite.
