In early 2015 the MIR Moderation team made a decision to tolerate short "Thanks" posts; provided they came from the Member who originated the Model ID Request. This relaxation of the VEF Forum Rules in the MIR Section was intended to encourage participation; particularly by Junior Members making their first few posts. The "enforcement" alternative made for a neat and tidy Section, but also quashed the enthusiasm of many newcomers who merely wished to express genuine appreciation for a long-sought-after ID solution.

This relaxation of Rules works in the MIR Section because our threads are typically quite short (3 or 4 posts), contain a mix of "content" and "discussion", and any "Thanks" post is generally the last word. If we see "Thanks" posts before a request has been solved, we will remove them.

We acknowledge that the "Thanks Post" relaxation would not work in most other sections of VEF, and we frequently send Private Messages to new Members advising them to use the "Thanks" button instead.

Hello. This is my first time posting here, so I'm a bit green here. I recently found some Becky Mcfarlane photos and wanted to post them on her thread. Unfortunately, I was unable to do so. For some reason, I cannot post attachments, specifically images through the supported image hosting service. While writing this post, I have noticed that under the posting rules it states:

You may post new threads
You may post replies
You may not post attachments
You may edit your posts

Am I doing something wrong, or is there something else happening? If someone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Images posted via an imagehost are fine. Directly uploading them to a post is not.

If you look at the BBCODE after you insert the image it should start with [URL=.

You should see a thumbnail of your image that is clickable and takes the user to the image host. This thumbnail needs to be a maximum of 180x180 pixels.

I see from your previous posts, you've already hosted images so you should be good to go anyway

Imagebam annouces that they will shut down end of the month.

This will heavily affect the ID-request section.

Unsolved requests and box-entries with images uploaded to imagebam/imgbox, will be down, solve impossible, if the requester don't upload to another hoster.

Even the Solved-request-subforum is affected, as all the images at this hosts are lost for further reference.

It maybe sounds funny, but I suggest, that the mods don't allow new requests for the next three weeks and that we try to reupload as many images as possible, even if they aren't our own posts.

I hesitate to use terms like "unmitigated disaster" to describe what may be coming, however it is clear that many Members who use imagebam & imgbox as their primary hosting services will be scrambling to download their collections before time runs out. It remains to be seen if those hosts will be able to handle the demand placed on their servers, or if they will crash under the strain.

As for the Model ID Section, we Mods will have to take a day or two to assess the situation, and decide how to respond to the threat.

Effective immediately no Moderator time will be spent on requests. All our time will be spent trying to preserve as much important content as possible.

Members: If your posts contain images hosted on Imagebam or Imgbox please rehost them. Any file host not banned by the VEF software is acceptable for now. If it is banned you will see ******* in the url. Alternative filehost recommendations are welcome.

Dedicated members: Please PM me if you wish to help the overall effort and we will assign you tasks so we're not working at cross-purposes.

Welcome back, everybody! The section is now open for business. First off I want to thank all our visitors for their patience and understanding. Many of you have restored your own images throughout this section and elsewhere on VEF. All the staff here thanks you for that. The level of enthusiasm and commitment we've seen during this time cannot be matched anywhere and only shows we have the best forum members on the 'net.

The Moderators here have worked overtime to insure the integrity of this section and regardless of the outcome with these hosts they've insured our losses were minimized. In addition we now have a lot of material saved for any similar problem which might arise in the future. A big thanks to BCFC_1982, highwayman274, and Rubinski.

Some of our regular members volunteered to help however they could and their efforts proved to be invaluable. A member called halvar, who does not frequent this section, wrote a special computer program to aid in the recovery effort. Then he continually modified and improved it based on feedback from those who were using it. This program was used in every section throughout the forum to collect and save images from Imagebam and Imgbox which were at risk. The entire forum owes him a big collective Thank You!

Within this section some of our members stepped up to offer their help. They sacrificed their free time and subsequently worked very hard whether they were using halvar's program or not. These members deserving our special thanks are deezer, effCup, and Teaktop. I cannot overstate the importance of having their help during this time. Thank you, gentlemen!
