I've been onto my allotment this morning and found:

Due to recent illness I've been off for a week and the place has turned back into a jungle. I have struck the first blow with a strimmer but there's a lot of digging to do now.

Much worse, thieves have struck. They cut a hole in the fence on Friday night and yanked up every potato plant they could find, including all of mine.

I know what that is like scounds, when I lived in Durham I had an allotment and put a hell of a lot of work into it, after the third break in and tools stolen plus vandelism, I just gave up on it!

Fortunately I now have a house with a lot of land and am just starting to get back into it, I have built 4 4'x8' raised beds out of old sleepers filled them with well rotted manure (from my own horses) and am going to plant them up next year

Self service tills

Have tried my best to avoid using these automated bastards for months now , but this morning the wide faced woman behind the counter decided to clear off . Leaving four empty unmanned tills , a huge petulant queue and me at the front of it. Giving yours truly no choice than to behave like a sheep and go to the computerized big brother machine, a device that is being used by the staff members at my local shop to help free up their counter time. Course the cretins don`t seem to equate the fact that if everyone just keeps using the machines the current staffing levels won`t be necessary, and two thirds of them will be given all the free time they could want !

Anyway back to the machine, i hate them

They bark orders at you (Maybe in a subtle way to cow this already cowered population even further ?) and for me at least slowed the whole process of buying stuff down , plus there was this annoying girl behind me that felt the need to give me two unasked for pieces of advice.

1) To make sure the bar code isn`t crinkled
2) Where to put my money in

Why ???

Because the machine didn`t scan my packet of crisps straight away , and i hesitated for half a second before putting my cash into the notes out slot !

"Gee thanks for the help friendly female , now could you point me in the direction of the OBVIOUS exit as i`m a man and can`t work even the most basic of actions "

Angry New Speak

There is something Orwellian about the phrase ''self service till''. The correct name would be the ''no service till'' or the ''F*** Off, we can't be arsed to serve you till''. Offered the choice between using the ''self service till'' and boiling my own testacles, I'd have to think about it.

More and more we are benefiting from Orwell's New Speak. For example the London Underground now tells us that there is ''good service on all London Underground lines'' when what they they mean is that the stifflingly hot cattle trucks are trundling the livestock to the abbatoir same as usual.

Don't even let me get started on the politicians...

Default Self service .. an oxymoron

Fortunately we don't have those Downunda yet.
In fact first I've heard of them. If they're that bad we'll be certain to get them.

I'm still annoyed with auto tellers at banks.
Recently I closed an account because my bank started with $2 withdrawl charges, because they don't have a branch where I live, and opened one with a building society. Supposedly less account keeping charges.
Does anyone remember when banks paid interest?
As usual I recieved my pin in the mail, glanced at it, then promptly lost it. Luckily I remembered which enabled me to withdraw. Once.
Then being a typical blonde, I forgot it.
Did the usual three strikes and your out!
Two days later I still coudn't withdraw. Turns out the bank had reset the password.

Another thing. Ever stood behind anyone having card difficulties in a supermarket? Seems to happen to me constantly.
They should have a 'cash only' check out, before they go and automate it.

Cats and Cat owners who let tiddle's shit on my lawn, and then say oh well they are a free spirit, no they are vermin and I will deal with them accordingly, and cats should be house trained especially when they carry so much disease.

A dog owner has to pick up, a cat owner should be just as responsible for the little turd machines maybe I should crap on my neighbours lawn
As a cat owner my 4 cats are house trained have a garden to use and more often than not they bury their crap. I'm not always 100% sure they do not crap in my neighbours garden but they do at least try. Dogs just drop and leave.
Cats are not vermin, cats actually clear up vermin. Mine have despatched several rodents already this year. As for the disease angle please note that all animals carry diseases, even humans, and I know several humans who are definitely not house trained.

I hate "holiday-bikers", middle-class 50 year old men with Honda Goldwings terrorizing Finnish summer by driving in swarms through long forestroads and nice agricultural, postcard-like landscapes, not giving a flying thought to slow down when driving through areas where people are living. I live nearby a road that is dead quiet rest of the year but at summer It`s just this infinite stream of jolly idiots!

I am a holiday biker and I love to ride through beautiful countryside but I do think the Honda Goldwing is the Cadillac of motorcycles, the ultimate tart's handbag. There used to one I encountered every Sunday in Epping Forest and he was always listening to The Archers on his on-board Panasonic stereo.

You're absolutely right by the way Futuro about the social crime of riding at full speed through villages and built up areas. It gives bikers a bad reputation all over the world but its the stupid minority who make all the rest of us look bad. I admit though that I usually ride alone simply because my biker friends stall and overheat their engines from trying to ride as slow as I do. When they've just had a full engine rebuild, their watchword is: ''No no. Don't bother running it in. Just lend it to scoundrel for a month and tell him to ride it exactly like he normally does...''
