To be fair to Cliff it was a very decent side with the best Welsh player of all time in it John Charles. A player that was voted as Juventus's best ever foreign player ahead of Omar Sivori and someone who would get into an all time British XI where he could alternate at centre back or centre forward.

To be honest I think European qualification needs to be altered. Far too many meaningless games. I know Luxembourg overcame Macedonia but some of the smaller countries need to have a qualification tournament all of their own before they enter the main draw. And expanding the tournament is all well and good for the purposes of television and money but it dilutes the quality at a time when players have already played a long season.

The current balance is right. And they should avoid doing the same with the World Cup. The shady Pratini wants to increase the number of teams in it. Which devalues the achievement of even making it that far to the finals and the anticipation for certain countries who may make it maybe every twenty years.

Messi closed in on Batigol's record for Argentina as they thrashed Bolivia 7-0. Matias Kranevitter looks like the new Redondo. A truly classy young player.

I feel international statistics need to be altered. Only goals and assists and hence caps should be counted from competitive games. With the number of friendlies today these figures are easily inflated.

This however would mean Wayne Rooney would be already ahead of Bobby Charlton although one would then have to compare the differing roles they had not to mention the goals per game ratio.

Some decent business in the end of the window for us at Watford although a tad miffed about sending Vydra to Reading without having giving him an opportunity.

Iceland have been incredible given their playing base. Their u21's also beat France.

PS Mitch. Lamela played quite well last night. Some players don't just fit into a league.
