^^ Oirish or not, he is still content in taking the pounds (unless he is actually paid in Euros) and represent an adopted country.
IMHO a captain should lead by example. Gotta be careful here so I will mention it before someone else does. Wharburton was never an enthusiastic singer of the anthem although you could detect a little lip movement. Compare that to AWJ who positively hyper-ventilates. |

& the sports administrators who pay him those pounds (or euros) are/were content to hire him for such. I'm not defending his behaviour during the song (not doubting you, but unseen by me). Rather, I'm simply noting that professionalism/mercenary-ism (new word?) cuts both ways, as it were.

Perhaps England should have its own National Anthem and that will just Leave NI to find one, although for some sporting events they play Londonderry Air or something along those lines.
England should adopt "Roll Out The Barrell" |

The way they have been playing lately "Land of Hope and Glory" could be more appropriate

I quite like Jeruselem as played and sung by the Barmy Army in (usually) the first over.

Some monty python tunes might inspire thinking positively
I think the age where singing a song actually made a difference in cricket has long gone We're lambasting an irishman for playing for England but look at the management around the world Theres not a country most likely in the top 10 who hasnt had a foreign born coachguiding the team I blame the cricket authorities for everything - their acting like a listed company of the stock exchange - too many business types in the infrastructure for mine They over load the schedule so theres no decent lead in to the next format which has a huge detrimental impact Players wont ever speak out as their being too well paid from all sides but its clear chopping and changing formats and over scheduling has a real costs Thats called embarassing defeats - all countries have now had them That those in charge put it all back on the players is typical of a corporate structure whose main aim is self preservation while dining on the excessive income generated from over scheduling If England are ever to be succcessful in India then look to their not that long ago 1-2 series win and build towards it - 2 world class spinners,a quick swing bowler & batsmen who can either read it from the hand or sweep with disdain - see Matthew Hayden anything less and you lose 3/4-0. England at 20 or 50 over cricket have always been ordinary in recent times Getting rid of Captain cook was a good start - Morgan should be next given his - Bangladesh no show What player can respect a captain who chose not to go where his players did? That says more about him and how committed he really is than the non-singing of the national anthem imho I've seen absolute stalwarts in Australia who never sang a word but they were fiercely committed in the heat of battle everytime Australias national anthem should be something different to the ordinary song we currently have whose lyrics are derided I'm not sure you will ever get the kind of epic songs as Scotland , France & America have but you dont really need it if it sends the right message. Thefirst song is seen as the best new anthem because it mentions the original indigienous guys we took over from after 40,000 years on their own The Seekers - I Am Australian, Waltzing Matilda, Georgy Girl (Live, 1994 - AFL grand final ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v22SPtCFck8 |

You're the one! Nothing more annoying to me than the twat with the trumpet. He isn't allowed to bring it into Headingley, the rest should follow Yorkshire's sensible example.

NZ win the ODI series vs Aust. 2-0 and the Chappell-Hadlee trophy.
Aust lose No. 1 status in the rankings and NZ move up to 3rd. Off to bed now, hope to wake in time for Leeds game. |
