Clearly recognized from you, it's subversion -or an attack against- our democracies of this company "Cambridge Analytica" ; but "treason" is too weak for it in my opinion. It's a massive manipulation(-s !) of voters.
More than 5 mill. Facebook identities were stolen, not to talk about the so called "friends" of the users.
(It's anything else than harmless to install any Apps on your cellphone !)

The busyness practices are - thanks to a whistle-blower - are on the table since a few weeks; one has to inform one selves.

Not so clear is, how long this company was really active ... what is no common with it's foundation.

@vannax:
The British government itself had contracts with that company. So the interests of enlightenments are very low.

(Well, I think to know that most of the Anglo-American aren't so much into data safety than the most of the other -European- countryman).

Mark Zuckerburg declines invitation to come here and explain, before a select committee, what the smeg went wrong with Facebook. Instead he sends a representative, which suggests he is rather a coward or just cant be bothered.

As they say of his résumé, Zuckerberg is rather a coward !

That's because he is always sending representatives, if things aren't running well for him.

And the reaction of the company is always similar, they are quite compunctious, they made a "mistake"; but they have before analysed and decided the direction, things in that company are running.
Always the same strategy, I wondering who is believing them any more.

As much as he's trying to earn money in that country.

If you don't pay for the product, then you ARE the product.
-Some old maxim about internet services said by some smart guy.

Don't wanna be a product? Then don't use the service.

The clearest explanation of what Cambridge Analytica (did) (may have done)
(was in a position to do) was explained by a PBS program yesterday, Marketplace. Remember that the "hook" was a Facebook "personality test", a variant of the Meyers-Briggs test. About 275,000 people took the test. Cambridge also (illegally) connected to the Facebook page of that person AND ALL THEIR FRIENDS to get an idea of their political leanings. Given those two sources, Cambridge could target their sponsored posts to the person's weaknesses.

It is unlikely that Cambridge tried to persuade people to vote for Trump. The purpose was to suppress Hillary voters to get them to stay home or to vote for minor party candidates in three specific states: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

To listen to the interview go to http://www.marketplace.org and click on the "Facebook" article.

One test each U.S. Facebook user can use to tell if they were affected is whether they believe Hillary committed a crime. If you believe that, you got that belief from Cambridge or a related source.

Sugar Mountain would be better off being prosecuted over here,We'd just give Him a few months probation,In the US,He'd probably get eighty years in some Federal Super Max prison. Not that I'm accusing Him of anything,Mind.

A related source, like say, CNN, where her being investigated by the FBI for mishandling classified information on personal e-mail servers was all over the news for a few weeks.

I'm not on Facebook, and I think she's as guilty as they come.
