When George Washington said this sentence, all the American people were like the athlete on the left part of the picture.
Today... they almost all look like the one of the right side of the picture.

Washington's sentence became unrealistic today.
He probably would be horrified to see how his "children" look today.

Much hype about 'chlorine washed chicken' in the UK press but that doesn't seem bother UK tourists consuming it whilst on holiday. Same with GM food.

If we are that bothered about chlorine why commercially wash our salad leaves in it, treat our drinking water with it and bath in huge quantities of it at our swimming pools.
I do not agree about the pesticide.
It's not a question of protectionism.
In France and Germany 40 years old people and more observed that insects have massively disappeared.
That's a real concern.
In Germany more and more people try to have their own hive and not because they want to get their own honey, but to save bees.

Pet bee - new trend in the city

Beekeepers have become a trend in German cities. Above all, many people want to do something about the increasing bee mortality. Because bees not only produce honey, but are also important farm animals.
Is disappearance of the insects not a preoccupation in UK?

Whoa!

I apologize if anyone took me seriously. Washington never said and such thing. That comes from a class I took fifty years ago regarding theories of history, and is one of the numerous ways of describing the crossing of the Delaware River and attacking a bunch of hung-over Hessians.

Most Americans see it as resourceful and heroic. I'm sure the residents of Hesse saw it differently.

EDIT: Regarding the photos, the American Civil War was the first time the military services required a medical examination for troops entering service. From the records which have been retained from those examinations, it appears that our federal troops hardly resembled the athlete. More than half showed evidence which we now understand to be of malnutrition or parasitic diseases. Those were the men accepted.

Default Trump attacks Michael Cohen over 'Playboy model payment tape'

President Donald Trump has condemned his former lawyer Michael Cohen amid US media reports that he secretly recorded Mr Trump discussing payments to former Playboy model Karen McDougal.

The tapes were reportedly discovered during an FBI raid on Mr Cohen's property earlier this year in New York.

Mr Trump tweeted that such a raid was "almost unheard of".

He added that a lawyer secretly recording a client was "totally unheard of and perhaps illegal".

The president also insisted he had done nothing wrong.

Mr Cohen's lawyer responded by saying that Mr Trump's statement was "false".

Default US Subsidies ?

Trump says his 'Trade Wars - Easy-to-Win' etc - might mean a little pain for a few. But all will come 'biggly good' Govt subsidies would prop them up....before the Mid-Terms....because thats where his supporters live and vote.

Thing is...Farmers in the US DO NOT WANT to live on Subsidies.

They want to work, grow and export their produce.And... Increase their Business.

Under an earlier Bush Adminstration. Pig/Goat farmers lived on subsidies

X hundred animals = X plus on market value for unsold livestock. A subsidy that might still be active.

In the EU we had scandals of grain mountains, withheld surpluses to maintain the prices, whilst 2/3 rds of the world starved.

In the US there was subsidies for Farmers, as a way of life.
Cheap labour + protected product = Good Business and expansion.

No more. Unless the GOP pass bills to increase Farmer subsidies in the wake of the Soybean collapse..and the Pig/Chicken collapse to China which they may... before the Mid-Terms....

Was a time when the US put tarrifs on "subsidised" product... like UK Steel in the 60's...
fair-do's..... Steel was Nationalised in the UK then, and the US steel was not!

Things changed though.

Now the US SUBSIDISE almost every export. directly or indirectly...all Nations do...

NO USA EXPORT is free of a Federal Dollar.... as in USA... so in China.

Which makes the Trumpian 'Trade Wars' so hypocritical and non-winnable... on basic logic.

That China is going to the WTA, probably means the Trumpians will try and withdraw from the WTO.. before sanction.

What a mess...from a huckster with a TV programme
~ as his prior claim to National Fame.....
Jeez... it was a UK prog that they paid for and copied - 'The Apprentice' - that had run for years in the UK before some wannabe TV Star in the US was chosen from the Z-Lists

Our bloomin fault....
