Just curious, do you want "thanks" or comments as well? Some threads seem to be quite rigorously "content only", others seem to welcome chatter about the posts.

I'm always happy to say something nice about a particularly good post, but not if its not wanted . . .

Let's say that comments in content threads aren't handled as rigorously in "Discussion & Talk Forum" as in other forums, but even here it depends on the case...

If a post is on-topic and adds some useful information it will not be removed in any forum as far as I can see.

And you can always add some content to your comment, this way it doesn't get removed

Seems to me, the best place for a request, is the most likely place that
what they are wanting will show up, regardless of a person being a long
time member, or the first time he's come to VEF. God only knows the
number of Vintage members that have built their reputations on the number
of posts they've made, but as to actually sharing something other than
an opinion, haven't contributed shit. Nothing wrong with having an opinion,
everyone has one. Everyone's got an asshole too, but that doesn't mean
I wanna see it either.

Your link was probably posted on other forums on the web, hence your VEF vote ratio being low. A few years ago I posted a link on a small music forum for a limited edition and out of print CD that I'd uploaded to Rapidshare. Most of the albums I uploaded were downloaded maybe a dozen times on average. However, this particular album was downloaded over 2,000 times. A quick Google and I found that the link had been posted all over the web.

Ok. I've been a member of this forum for a couple years, and I rarely say anything. I'm basically a professional lurker. But on this subject I have a little to say.

I personally do not thank until after I have received and viewed the content. Why thank someone for something that may be unobtainable due to host issues or just plain sucks, either in content or quality? This POV sorta compound the problem, because it may take weeks before I actually get the item (its usually in queue in a list of hundreds of items of all kinds in my download manager). Then I have to figure out which thread it came from originally, and then which post it is, as many items are posted multiple times in slightly different variations by different members. I there fore find it to just be a lot less work to not bother thanking people unless the item is undeniably going to be awesome and is also something I cannot find anywhere else. Chrissy Ann is an example of this. She's nearly impossible to find anywhere.

As far as uploading, this is some thing I just do not do on this style of forum. Link hosts are unreliable. They change their wait times between downloads and their speeds at their whims. Files disappear regularly due to purges. i hate uploading to them. If this were a torrent based site I would be flooding you with so much porn you'd all have to go buy 3TB harddrives once a month just to keep up, but it isn't (I upload bootleg music torrents constantly to the sites I frequent; I'm no leech).

Keeping all this in mind I hereby LOUDLY announce my deepest thanks to all of you who have taken the time to upload to this forum, particularly those who have reuploaded several times to make up for dead links. Thank you, thank you, thank you all for all that you've done. Because of you I've been able to locate pristine copies of things I had on grainy 6th generation VHS tapes when I was 15, and to track down stars that would have vanished into obscurity long ago if not for your efforts. I know this doesn't make up entirely for pressing the button thousands of times, but I hope some of the appreciation I feel for you all is now shown.

PS- The thing I hate most is sites similar to this that won't allow you to even see the links until after you hit the thanks button. How insecure are these members to need that constant approval?

So why don't you thank them, and if it's a lousy d/l go back and remove your thanks ? Seems to me you're saying it's too much trouble to go back and thank them.

I know you need to have so many posts and thanks before you can place a request.

I filled a couple of requests last week from newbie just because I felt like it.

Plus the veteran VEF members would benefit too.

I didn't go back to check if the newbies who placed the requests thanked me for filling their requests.

What were they?

Insatiable and John Leslie's Chameleons Not The Sequel I think.
