And quite right too!

I don't see what the point would be of conflict with Russia. As I've said before there is clearly no love lost either way - but by the same token we need nothing from Russia and I don't suppose they need much from us.

I think the minister who said "just shut up and go away" was right. Just politely sever all ties and let's go our own ways. We now know what Russia is about and the best policy is to rise above and ignore. These daft utterances from our senior politicians seem ill- judged to me and serve little purpose apart from to buttress Putin at home.

Millions of Russians died opposing Hitler so, while you might think that about Putin and the tournament, to say it is undiplomatic, insensitive and really rather stupid. The British way of doing business (with an eyebrow raised in superior disdain) seemed to work much better in the past.

"reckless words and ego" is meaningless...you could say that about any MP.You see such derogatory remarks fro the likes of Kevin McGuire on Press Preview and the Daily Mail, I would expect more reasoned arguments on a serious forum like this.

So you think that by agreeing with what this "nobody" says Johnson is going to start a war?

It is not up to Johnson to ban England from the World Cup finals, which they have been fighting for 2 years to get into.
'I would expect more reasoned arguments on a serious forum like this'

Select Committee? So what? No one abroad cares or has even heard of the Select Committee. He's not part of the Cabinet or even the governing party. He's irrelevant.

Of course the Gov't could stop them going if they wanted but they won't because it will lose them the votes of all those deluded flag waving morons.

Any football 'fan' who is stupid enough to go to Russia this summer deserves everything they get, and who is responsible for diplomacy and their safety and security abroad? - call Boris Johnson, good luck guys!

I reckon football fans [ especially the Celtic and Rangers variety] deserve all they get even if they don't go to Russia.

Those of you with long memories will not forget how Thatcher tried to stop the British Olympic team from going to Moscow in 1980-the Americans boycotted it but we still went despite the conflict in Afghanistan I think it was which divided countries, it turned out to be a very successful Gamrs for both the Russians and the British, so Government must not interfere in England going to the World Cup but I am still not sure how safe supporters will be and remember what happened to English supported in the European Championships a few years ago with Russian supporters.

Boris is an oaf and has overstepped the mark with his comments but I notice Therssa May doesn't admonish him so does that mean she agrees with him?

I've been lucky enough to visit Ol Petjana rhino reserve a couple of times. The first time you see a wild rhino is a wonderful moment. The staff there are very friendly and very committed to their charges. They even have a graveyard for those rhinos that were killed by poachers. Every night they send out anti poacher patrols which are very heavily armed and have elastic rules of engagement.

One point is that the main reason for poaching is that Chinese and other Asian gentlemen think that powdered and drunk in tea it will give the a powerful erections. The horns are made of keratin so they won't. What will give them huge erections is to eat the fried testicles (preferably fried whilst still attached) of the slimeballs involved in slaughtering such wonderful animals.

Why the UNO didn't send Blue Helmets to protect them?
Endangered species are a world treasure like gold or diamant.
Am I wrong?

No, you are right.

These creatures are a treasure for all humanity - not just the countries they happen to live in. Having said that, I know local people get killed by those animals - but that's also an area where the world can help by protecting the populace as well.

I suppose though that there is no political or financial will to do so.

I think there is some will to do so but when you let them roam large areas of open lands they will become an easy target for the poachers at times.
It is sad but the only live rhino may come from being enclosed in zoo's and wild animal parks.
With science coming on strong it will be possible to clone some extinct species.

On last week, I've listened a very interesting radio report about researches made on mammoths in Russia.
At the end of the report, the Russian professor explained that they already try in several countries to get mammoth back, but they need an Asian female elephant to let the mammoth embryo developping and growing during the gestation period.
That means that the embryo will get several of the characteristics of the female elephant and will never be a real mammoth, but an hybrid of elephant and mammoth.
Then they will need several reproductions to maybe get a hybrid looking like a mammoth, but it still will be an hybrid.

So it seems that the "original" mammoths are extincted forever.

But maybe one day, the science will find a solution to create a clone without a mother in an artificial matrix. Actually that's pure fiction.
