Racehorse Names and VEF Monikers.

Not being a punter (in the horse gambling sense at least), I have always been fascinated by the odd and unusual names that racehorses have - and the strange thought processes that must have led to the choice of any particular name - they strike me as being random and done more for amusement than anything else.
Any glance at the racing pages of a national newspaper will bear me out.
I'm also amused and fascinated by the monikers fellow posters at VEF adopt.Looking at the long-list printed at intro page bottom is always chuckle-worthy.The same process that inspires horse-owners must be going on

I love gambling

I love horses

I own 2 horses

I despise horse racing

So if i were too ever be asked to name a race horse, I'd keep with this forums theme and horse racing. Combine the 2 and have it do what I'd want the horse to do.........Cum Last

possibly the funniest episode of the simpsons ever there chap.
and i agree with estreeter as to horses racing, but then are they not bred and nurtured solely for that purpose..?? bit like the same argument vegetarians have with us eating chicken/pigs/cows..... if that's reason for their existance... then im fine with it.

'jonny-cum-lately' would be a stonking name for a non-runner i reckon....??

If you want to race in Canada or the U.S. the naming rules are tighter than you may think and these restrictions are what probably lead to some of the odd ball names horses are given.

If I were to own a race horse I would want the name to be something that is classy so all the upper class snobs would respect me. Something with an equine feel to it but yet something that represented who I am, what I am all about. My horses name: Hoof Hearted.
