The trouble is, I suspect the aerodynamic genie has been out of the bottle for far too long now to ever return to the basic elegance of those classic era cars. Compare the hideous mess that is this year's Force India, festooned from nose to tail with bargeboards, winglets, shark fins and other aerodynamic odds and ends, to say nothing of that bloody awful halo (or the pink livery!) with it's spiritual ancestor, Gary Anderson's oh-so-pretty Jordan 191, probably one of my all-time favourite 'modern-era' F1 cars.

The plot seems to have really been lost since the early 2000's, looking at this rough timeline in aero development from the Jordan/Midland/Spyker/Force India (have I forgotten any changes of ownership and name there?) stable- the original 191 of 1991, through the last Jordan, 2005's EJ15, with the aero rot definitely beginning to set in, to this year's VJM-11...

I reckon it's the modern paint jobs that make them look so hideous.

Those complex front wings have now gone beyond a joke...! And we thought the four level rear wings were mad back in the day..?

You know what's a bit of a motorsport treat?

Checking out the grid girls as they're going through the grid one by one at the MotoGP race.

Did you see Johann Zarco's girls yesterday?

Unbelievable!!!

Edit: I meant "treat" not "threat".

As an Australian, I'm going to keep a lid on my enthusiasm. But make no mistake, there's a fair bit of enthusiasm under the lid.

Edit: hopefully it can be one of the biggest days in Australian motorsport history if Will Power can stop wasting his chances driving for the Penske team at Indy.

Edit: Well, that was a pretty good night of car racing for Australians!

Congrats to the Honey Bear.... Ricciardo deserved that win more than most other winners for a while. Let the games begin now he's in 3rd place in the DC.

My heartiest congratulations Mate. Ricciardo was splendid in winning the Monaco Grand Prix with an underpowered car, while Will Power was great in taking the Indianapolis 500.

I was there in person to see that and it was a popular win.

What a monumental day for Australian Motorsport.

I read comments about the poor coverage of F1 by certain channels. If you think that`s poor, then check out Eurosports coverage of Le Mans 24 Hour. It`s chuffing diabolical and it`s only the first practice session. The commentators aren't great, they`ve been talking about a couple of drivers throwing in fast LMP2 laps, yet the cameras are showing pit stops, driver changes, pretty much anything other than the fast laps.
Only got last 5 seconds of Alonso`s fastest practice lap, coz they were showing slo-mo tyre changes. Dreading actual qualifying coz I don`t think we`ll get to see an actual qualifying lap by anyone.
I love the Le Mans, but I really don`t think I can watch such amatuerism of broadcasting

I'd guess the reason for that is the race organisers (either the ACO or FIA) are responsible for the video, with broadcasters only doing the commentary.

It's the same for F1, as well as the FIFA World Cup, as well as the Olympics, as well as virtually every other sporting event where there are multiple broadcasters from multiple countries.
