Well it takes a debutante and a player by no means on his natural game to show, apart from the skip, that the wicket, probably at its best for batting today, really held no demons.

Now if they can reek out another 100 - a tall order with a new ball due quite soon - and the game gets interesting.

Is this a repeat of the Botham's Ashes or Graveney and Murray taking it to the Windies.

Decided to add England to today's bet, Fulham and Madrid have come up trumps.

Well that did not take long. 4 for 6. But the tail can not be relied upon to get the runs that is the job of the top order.

A total lottery for the paying punters come the fourth day let alone the fifth.

History dictates that England will win at a canter come the 2nd Test and all will be 'fine' again. Not.

Positives. Good debut from Bess. But he was not selected for his batting. Good return for Buttler but, again, he was not selected for that kind of role. Coming in at 7 he would expect an established batsman to remain at the other end which gives him the freedom to do what he does.

Will there be changes for the 2nd ? Darn it. There should be.

Trust you have not lost more than you can afford two. But that couple of pints from the wager might have atleast made you forget somewhat quicker.

Just short of breaking even, so no complaints as I don't throw £ at the bookies.

I like to have a bit of fun but not at the expense of emptying the bank account.
