On a previous post I mentioned to lookout out for the Jags & Titans, since then its been downhill for both.

I firmly believe now its going to be a really weird year as Miami and Chicago serve up a feast, while the Falcons defence finally holds its own.

Shock of the day thus far is the Skins beating the Panthers, maybe its just a dream.

Watching the start of the KC vs NE game.

KC has the worse defense in the NFL and they are 5-0?

How are they going to stop Tom Brady?

I hate the patriots, Tom Brady, and the mastermind Bill Belichick but I do respect them all, and in a way they got that Sith lord star wars thing going on,they are good.
think deep down we all know who was going to win but scary close for a October fright night for Brady, yes he won with a looming fear that it is a long season and these two teams my still meet again. Chiefs lost, a win is a win, Go pats, but they faced something on a cold October night that scares them!
Was a good game.

These young quarterbacks are exciting to watch and create a whole new level of unpredictability to games. Baker Mayfield, for example, got a lesson in the speed of NFL defensive backs this week. His O-line teammates have work to do on pass protection. But, really, Phillip Rivers showed that he can shred an inexperienced defense.

Many divisions are up for grabs. Even Miami could take the AFC East if they can beat the Patriots at home. That assumes that they won't have inexplicable losses, which I will believe after the fact.

We really don't know what will happen in most games with this stew of mediocrity, but it is all sound and fury. Nobody in the NFC appears ready to hang with the Rams. If both the Patriots and KC win out, the AFC title will be played in Kansas City. Based on what we saw last night I like the Chiefs' chances. But neither team looks capable of stopping the Rams, who have also show defensive proficiency.

That being said, the Eagles play the Rams and Saints on the road, along with road games against three other middling teams. The Rams play the Saints at home and the Chiefs on the road. They also play the Niners twice, Seattle and Green Bay at home, and Arizona and Chicago on the road. In general, given the parity, all the "contenders" play one another. Only the Niners, Raiders, Giants and Cardinals offer relief.

I got killed on the over/unders this week and gave back all my winnings for the season. The only consolation is that the Vegas pros took beatings, too.

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan is looking into playing four of the Jaguars home games in London assuming his attempted purchase of Wembley Stadium goes through. the other four home games would still be played in Jacksonville, barring any hurricanes that go through Florida during the NFL season. This looks like the opening move towards having the Jags permanently move to London, the big incentive of course being more money in Khan's wallet as he claims that he makes much more money on the games played in London then the ones in Jacksonville.

In other potentially sad news for some, Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen who also is a co-founder of Microsoft has died of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 65. he bought the team in 1996 and while free to spend as much money as was needed, unlike Jerry Jones Allen was VERY hands off in regards to player decisions. Allen never married and had no children so it will be interesting to see what his will states as to who will be the new owner of the team. Maybe Rush Limbaugh would like to take another shot at owning an NFL franchise. Trump could certainly bully the other owners this time into perhaps accepting Limbaugh into the club.

Arizona is one of the bottom feeders this year. They did not realize that losing top defensive talent put them into rebuild mode and tried to patch together what was a sub par offensive line last year. Now you have a rookie quarterback trying to operate behind a bad line.

1:54 to go in the game Rosen hurts his ankle during yet another Von Miller sack.

Just to expand on this last item, it seems that there are never more than 2 or 3 really intelligent football coaches operating in the league in any period.

The big issue problem is that the NFL is extremely conservative. EXTREMELY conservative. Even now you hear coaches and scouts and media types whining about how few quarterbacks in college can 'graduate' and succeed at the NFL, because so few college QB's play under center, but instead use the shotgun or pistol approach. Which, okay fine.

Except I've never heard a reason for exactly why NFL quarterbacks MUST play under center rather than the shotgun, except some vague bullshit about how it keeps the defense guessing as to whether the play is going to be a run or pass, like you can't run out of the shotgun?

And coaches have big egos, especially co-ordinators, which is why you have garbage like what Arizona is doing with rb David Johnson, running him straight into the line instead of letting do some end arounds.

Right now we have Bill Belichick. Andy Reid and Sean Payton have been employed for quite awhile. Sean McVay shows promise. But really most NFL coaches qualify as dumb jocks.

So many promising quarterbacks come into the league, are drafted by bad teams, and are ruined as bad coaches set them up for horrendous beatings. Say what you want about Alex Smith, but he is one tough and resilient s.o.b. What he went through in his early years in San Francisco has broken most young quarterbacks.

What has been happening to Andrew Luck is truly sad.

As Bill Walsh demonstrated, after you pass your way into a two touchdown lead, you can run to your heat's content.
