Default Yahoo Mail password problem-has anyone else had this?

Last week we tried to get into my Dad's email via Yahoo, with whom he had been with for years. Try as we might we just couldn't get in and the system didn't recognise the password we entered. We went through the rigarmarole of signing back in, adding a CAPTCHA code and then putting in a telephone number for a text message with a code to put in-which failed.

Has anyone else had this problem as according to a forum for Yahoo there are thousands of other people who cannot access their mail. Oddly enough we can get his e-mail via my mother's iPad but I can't see what the password is because all you get is dots. Can anyone suggest how we can get this back up and running?

Via Yahoo.co.uk direct, Mr G?

Because if it's via the ISP way, and those two beloved letters BT - then accessing the mail system is totally useless due to a programming bug that the developers are unwilling to fix.
I've been 'locked out' of my account due to 'suspcious activity' caused by too many log in attempts.
Bollocks - it's me looking at my inbox first on this very computer, and then on my phone out and about. But that triggers the shutters with BT - and I'm forced to take the more direct 'http://mail.yahoo.com' way in - which 9/10 works.

Occasionally once in there are nice little issues. A pop up will say there is a problem with the password, but clickling cancel solves it. Other times read and then deleted messages will re-appear as unread messages again, and the spam filters are next to useless.

Of course, we did have the half a billion hack attack news from 2014 last week - so, I wonder if your Dad is bearing the after effects of that?

Sorry, if I've not helped practically. But at least having a rant about BT and Yahoo feels a bit better..

I am not so sure that B.T . is to blame but I suppose one has to blame something or someone if not the hackers that did this. Yes it sounds like he and millions of others are bearing the brunt of the after effects and I wonder if it will ever be fixed. In the meantime it means that if my Dad wants to add attachments to send to people he has to copy it onto a pendrive and then I will have to send it via my Hotmail - which I have to say has been the best e-mail system for years. There is another way of getting e-mails via an iPad BUT you can't attach things like MSWord files which he does when he sends things out. We are going to call B.T. tomorrow and maybe they can help out although I have my doubts. It has been a real headache and my Dad is 85yrs old and doesn't need(neither do I for that matter) this hassle.

I read something the other day, allegedly from Yahoo, that someone had hacked into certain accounts and gathered some users data, passwords, etc, Greenman. Worth looking it up online. It may give you the answers.

Yahoo informed me of the hack and made me change my password my old yahoo.com account, which happens to be the account most frequently accessed. It did not do so for yahoo mail accounts with other endings, e.g., @att.net

Greenman,

Yeah, this happened to me around 5 years ago. Don't remember the exact circumstances but essentially the same events. Yahoo was hacked (including my account as well as several other people I knew) and Yahoo wasn't willing to do anything about it (we all had "free" accounts).

Tried logging in with negative results and Yahoo was no help (they give no support to free accounts) so just gave up on the account. Haven't (and won't) use Yahoo for anything any longer.

Just my experience.

My Dad and I spent 48 minutes with BT this morning, first trying to find out why I had been sent an e-mail about a £95 refund(although we had been told it was £86) and it turned out they had not sent it, and it was probably a scam! I like to think I can spot one a mile off, but this one nearly fooled me and thank goodness I didn't click on the link. Secondly we then spoke to someone about the Yahoo e-mail and after another 10 minutes we managed to get another phone number for Yahoo, which we diligently rang and got someone called 'Steve' but obviously he was in India. He tried to help but then after another 20mins we lost the signal. Before he went he did say that we could have it done remotely but it would cost us £79! Blow that for a game of soldiers said my Dad. So the upshot of all this is I set up a brand new Hotmail address for him and he spent the last 2hrs putting in all his contacts-which he can still access via the iPad. I tell you the whole thing is a nightmare so my advice is if you can sign up for a Hotmail/Outlook or even GMail account instead.

I had the same e-mail this morning. However, hovering over the 'From' lettering in the inbox revealed in the pop-up that it was from (allegedly) a '@virgin.net' address. Oh, BT using Virgin media e-mail addresses. Interesting. Click - mark as spam!

Hope you got BT to phone you, rather than you phone them. Head to the help section, fire up Live help and give them your phone number and a sentence of the issue has worked in the couple of times I wanted to try and speak to a human, rather than a buck passing algorithum.
