I can relate re: Joe. You saw what happened to OUR "Joe Mauer" And how can you calculate how much Justin means to the team. (Well, I guess the standings could be a "tell") Keep yer chin up, Bro!!!

I was a Braves fan growing up, so of course I loved to hate the Yanks. Something about their sense of entitlement, their willingness to "buy" championships--I used to argue the Yanks were the reason MLB should adopt a salary cap. But I actually visited New York last year, coincidentally when Mr. Steinbrenner passed, and I have a healthy respect for them now. So I guess you could say a I hate to love them, now...

As seen in previous posts, I'm not a Yankees fan. But watching the video of Derek Jeter's last game in New York made me smile. It was an ending usually reserved for the movies. The old saw is "Nice guys finish last." Derek Jeter proves the exception to the rule.
Here's to you Captain. See you in Cooperstown.

The media's slavish devotion to all things Jeter was the most tedious aspect of this season. He was a below average fielder, above average hitter, and completely selfish. When the Yankees signed A-Rod, Jeter is the one who should have moved to 3B, not A-Rod, who was the best shortstop in the game at the time. My father raised me to hate the Yankees, and I have taken to it with a passion. Their so-called fans, really just frontrunners who disappear when the team plays poorly, are the worst in baseball. Growing up in Washington DC in the 50's it was clear that my team had no chance, since the Yankees had the most money, and could use teams like the A's and Indians as farm teams, and believed it was their birthright to be in the World Series every year. When they finally fell off their perch after losing the '64 World Series, and were not seen in the playoffs again until 1976, were happy times indeed, and the current team, aging and infirm, looks set to head down that path again, while my Washington Nationals have become a formidable power, built through the draft and trades mostly, the way it should be done. Suck it Yankee fans, now and forever.

Baseball Lives in 2016
A shout out to both teams for a magnificent and exciting World Series. It is too bad that only one team could win as both were deserving. What do you say we revive this thread?

I kind a hope that Chicago Cubs will win the world series
Not because i am a fan or anything. Simply because they have not won it since 1908 or 09 or when ever it was. It was a long time ago. |

Again, I haven't been a baseball fan since the 60's or so. And didn't watch game 7 last night. But I do have to say the attitudes of most everybody I ran into today was really positive and just plain happy. Didn't figure out why until around noon.
So I do have to congratulate the Cubs. Way to go! Haven't seen so many people so happy in I don't know how long. |
