It was all totally real, I could see the hairs of her gray/white bush and the veins in her legs, and her yellow-gray croggled teeth.

This must have gone on for like 30 seconds or a minute or so, like I said, I could not move a muscle, then I must have blacked out into a deeper sleep.

When I awoke in the morning I could remember the whole thing vividly, in fact I can still remember it clearly to this day. I spent a couple of days wondering if I had been raped by a witch or a succubus.

Since then I have thought it must have been some weird combination of sleep paralysis/lucid dream.

But was it?

Nothing remotely like that has happened to me before or since.
I don't want to come across as a know-it all, but it sounds to me like a hypnopomic hallucination. They're actually quite common and I've had a few over the years. Interestingly, at least to me, they started after after I began practising techniques I'd been taught in a class on lucid dreaming.

Well, that's a relief.

No, but I've patronized the "supernatural" industry. I bought a ticket to a "ghosts tour" on a famous, bloody, 19th century battlefield that has several supernatural stories attached to it. The tour guide, dressed in the clothes of that time, was a bit too dramatic and simply repeated vague hearsay. No witness names, no dates of the alleged supernatural events.

Someone mentioned ectoplasm. Yeah, the guide mentioned that too. At one point on the battlefield, he said professional "ghosthunters" were at this spot, had their ectoplasm machines (?) turned on, and the machines showed little floating lights where many dead were buried. Um, yeah, can you say fireflies? They are common in the area!

Having been skeptical and all, I still wouldn't want to be out on that battlefield at 3 in the morning at the site of the greatest slaughter, where huge numbers of men were wasted. I'm sure the hair on the back of my neck would be standing up...

I had an encounter I can't explain, I'm not saying it was a ghost, but it was a very odd event.

When I was in my late teens 18/19 I was walking home one night from a friends place, very much worse for wear from a few too many beers. It was late, maybe 2 or 3 am, and my path took me along a narrow unlit lane. I noticed two shifty looking blokes hanging around at the end of this path and it was too late to turn tail and go a different root. I felt sure they were up to no good.

Just then a large black dog seemed to almost appear out of nowhere, it trotted beside me past the two guys and then as I turned off the path it turned with me onto a paved footpath. I could clearly hear its claws on the path, and then they stopped. Each side of the path was open fields with a good view for around 200 yards in every direction, yet no sign of the dog!

Ghost? Guardian angel? Spirit beast? I have no idea, but the memory of that night has stuck with me for over thirty years.

I’ve just recalled an experience that happened to an old friend and his wife. They moved into their current house almost exactly 17 years ago this week. Quite soon Laura said that she felt a presence in a couple of rooms and most strongly in their bedroom.

Adrian being a bit of a big girls blouse about such matters almost put his fingers in his ears and sang ‘la la la’.

A couple of years into their occupancy and in the middle of the night Laura woke with a start and whispered to her husband ‘there’s something in the room’. He, being a yellow bellied streak of piss just buried bimself like a quivering jelly even deeper under the bedclothes.

Laura sat up and there it was! Sitting on the foot of the bed was the shape of a human figure outlined in faint flickering light which she described as being like an artificial candle light bulb and which cast no shadows.

‘I knew it’ she exclaimed loudly, the apparition instantly disappeared and has never been seen again in the 15 years or so that have elapsed since that night. Laura has not felt any presence in the house since and Adrian still won’t discuss it.

Names changed of course.

If it's any comfort to Adrian, I'd have been quivering under the blankies right next to him.

Probably a loop in the "space-time" field.

Ohh, I recognize this! I had that multiple times when i was young (let's say puberty), and it was a strong and confusing feeling, sometimes happening on a place i knew i could never have been before (like on vacation in France).

I used to consider it a brain-loop, but there is actually a term for it (of course there is): déjà rêvé.

Here’s a story I am familiar with and I wrote the following for a motor club newsletter five years ago. Edited and names changed as before but a very few of you may be able to work out the location.

30 years ago a hard nosed business man named Paul Ramshaw lived in Shawscombe, the house at the top of the hill where Stephen Durris now resides. He shared ownership of the house with one Ted Sadler. Both were fiery individuals and serious boozers not given to tolerate fools. One night Paul was returning alone from a function and was well in-drink. He was busting for a leak and figured that he wouldn't get to the house before he wet himself. He pulled up in the marshals slot at Bottom Ess to relieve himself. As he stood there he experienced a supernatural event of such intensity that he moved out of the house within weeks and sold his share to Ted. He only confided in Ted about the full nature of what happened but word got out. Anybody that enquired further of Paul was greeted with great hostility. That included our late member Henry Harrisfield who was a friend of his and who he cut off very abruptly when he enquired of the incident.
