A friend of mine had a copy of Knave many years ago and it was the first time I had seen a full frontal shot. I think for me it was seeing a long cucumber inserted in various positions which topped my list at the time. I was never quite sure, tho' I checked and rechecked, if the cuke was cut down so as to pretend it was inserted deep or if indeed the lady had taken nearly 7 inches of it!

So long ago I might be wrong but I remember buying a Whitehouse Digest and the last

Journal of Sex became Journal of Love and was a sister magazine of Rustler etc. Up to at least volume 1 part 6 it was hardcore, and was on general sale in newsagents. As you say , it passed itself off as an educational journal of sexology, with articles by doctors and sections on erotic art. It contained sets of oral and vaginal penetration and various sets of vaginal insertion of vibrators and various other objects.

I can't say absolutely - we're talking about the mid to late 1970s - but I seem to remember they sank themselves by pushing the boundaries too far and publishing photos that could be construed as c***d p**n in one issue.
