In our never-ending search for new materials on Karen, I discovered on YouTube a short video tribute to Karen and Danny Castle, apparently for their induction into the World Acrobatic Hall of Fame in 2009. Alas, no video of Karen in motion—just some obscure black and white stills of her and Danny in action, followed by a tribute to another group of inductees (and they got video!). Here’s the URL.

And while we’re on the subject of Karen, the Hefners sold their interest in PB last week.

The Hefners sold their 33 percent stake in the company for $35 million to Icon Acquisition Holdings, which means the company is now worth around $105 million. As a fan noted in a Yahoo Group, that’s far less than the $200 million plus PB was worth when Rizvi Traverse took the company private in 2011. What will happen now is anyone’s guess, but the current owners may dump what’s left to investors who wish to use only PB’s global branding and marketing arm, and get rid of the rest, including the magazine and its employees. But for now, Cooper Hefner remains the company’s Chief Creative Officer, even though he is no longer an owner.

For us vintage fans, however, there’s only one question that matters: what will happen to the Vault? Who knows? All is in limbo at this point. You might want to look at a recent post about Karen by a Photoshop expert, who gives us an idea of what riches might be in there, given how heavily airbrushed he discovered some of Karen’s most erotic photos were. Here's what he came up with from the one low res photo that wasn't airbrushed:



It would be great to see those originals, unairbrushed, the way Karen and Ken Marcus intended. I, however, would settle for more photos of Karen in clothes at the beach or in the gym—or, getting my hopes up, uncropped versions of the photos we’ve seen in miniature of Karen in her Dear PMs columns. We can always hope!

It was a front page photo to introduce a full length article in the LEADER POST, which Togolane posted here.

And here is a terrible photo (or at least a poorly scanned photo) of Karen at a 1984 auto show. Sorry for the quality, but we want to be complete!



I also found, however, a disheartening article that confirms how deeply Karen regretted her decision to become a PM, and how hard her first months on the “appearance” trail were for her. I've posted it here on Karen's discussion thread.
