No,I don't actually,There are some accents from the West of the Irish Republic which sound more American than Irish,They are sometimes very hard to pinpoint.

After listening to an Ulsterman for any prolonged period, you'd be lucky to be able to hear at all!

We used to have a much beloved Veteran member from Belfast since sadly deceased, I can only imagine His reaction to recent posts..

Leeds is out of my old brigade area.. Hull was a real problem area though.

Trust me when I say that hose-reel jets have wandered off target on many occasions. Been hit with a lump of water at 150lb pressure usually has the desired effect of moving people along..

A notorious estate to the north of Hull used to have high-rise flats - now demolished - and that was bad for stuff dropping on you from the upper floors. Literally everything and anything including sofas, tellys and dog shite rained down.
There is also another estate in Hull - used to be the biggest council estate in Europe - that had a two-pump station on it. Visitors to the station there were advised to check below the door handles before entering the buildings. The little darlings had a habit of sticking razor blades beneath the handles..

The general public can be real charmers at times..

You know Grouchy, sometimes I think getting rid of the lash for anti social behaviour was a retrograde step on the march forward.

Edit: In fact when I used "provenir du nez" on google translate it was translated by "snuffling".

Now translating the full sentence on google translate, that means "snuffling" means "snob".
It wasn't the meaning of my question. :/ I always have to be careful when I use google translate.

My question was: Does American accent sounds coming a lot from the nose for you too?

And if yes, according to you what would be the reason of this mutation ?
Do you think that's how was the British accent of first immigrants?

Because French Canadian get a huge accent (coming from the nose too) for us and it seems that was how spoke French people in France when they immigrated.

I have often found that when I watch either British movies or t.v. shows that it is sometimes quite difficult to understand the conversation. I was just recently watching my discs of this old British drama/action series called "Danger UXB" starring Anthony Andrews. It is about the brave army department that defuses the thousands of unexploded bombs that fell all over England during World War 2. Sometimes I could clearly understand what was being said by a particular English actor, but other times I could not understand even one word spoken by others. Part of the problem comes from the speed of talking. Some people seem to speak so fast, while others speak slowly and clearly. Actually I sometimes have this same problem with Americans. The typical southern accent heard in the southern states can often be hard to understand.

That was a great series.

Can you get subtitles? All British TV channels provide them now and that sometimes helps if the accents are unfamiliar.

Of course, I come from south east England so I haven't got an accent.

Yes I can get subtitles, but I don't like using that capability. That's the reason I don't watch foreign language films.

To get back to this British accent thing. A perfect example is the great movie "Zulu". I can clearly understand it when a young Michael Caine speaks. Also for Stanley Baker and Nigel Green, and others, but there were many other actors in that film that I could hardly understand what was being said. I had to see the film several times to finally understand all the spoken words by all the different actors.
