His coaching career was both successful and regarded by many as revolutionary. His clean record and passion for the game―exemplified by his campaigning for the establishment of a national club-level competition―has earned him a place as a celebrity and popular culture figure in Australia. He was named a Member of the Order of Australia in 1978 and in 1996 was selected in the AFL's Team of the Century as a ruck-rover he died age 87 after complications from a fall.

Colombian artist Fernando Botero dies aged 91 - Le Monde

Considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, the Colombian artist was most famous for his voluptuous figures. His death was announced on Friday.

Colombia's most famous artist, Fernando Botero, who was known for his voluptuous depictions of people and animals, has died aged 91, President Gustavo Petro announced on Friday, September 15.

Botero's works of plump and slightly surreal forms became enormously popular and were on display in museums and public spaces in cities around the world, including Bogota, Madrid, Paris, Singapore and Venice.

"Fernando Botero, the painter of our traditions and defects, the painter of our virtues, has died," the president posted on social media.

Botero's hometown, Medellin, declared a week of mourning, with Mayor Daniel Quintero saying his works on display in that city "will live forever." Local media hailed Botero as the greatest Colombian artist of all time, reporting his health had deteriorated in recent days as he suffered pneumonia.

Botero – who had been dubbed the "Picasso of Latin America" – was a passionate and tireless artist, his oeuvre of more than 3,000 paintings and 300 sculptures proof of an insatiable appetite to create.

Even in his later years, he said he was working 10 hours a day. "I work more now perhaps because I know that there is so little time left," he said an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP) in 2012, the year of his 80th birthday. "I often think about death and it saddens me to leave this world and not be able to paint more. I love it so much."

I always liked Roger's music and often listen to him.

Folk singer Roger Whittaker, famous for his 1969 hit song Durham Town and expert whistling, has died at the age of 87.

His other hits included The Last Farewell and New World in the Morning, and he sold nearly 50 million records around the world, his website said.

After starting in folk clubs, he went on to success with the Skye Boat Song, a duet with Des O'Connor in 1986.

He was also able to sing in several languages.

They included German and French, allowing him to appeal to a wide audience, especially in Germany, where he was particularly popular.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1936, his parents were from Staffordshire, England.

Whittaker studied medicine after doing national service in Kenya.

While studying for his degree, he sang in local clubs and wrote his own songs.

But he left his medical course after 18 months and went in to teaching, moving to the University of Bangor in Wales in 1959 to get a teaching qualification.

While there, he composed some songs to sing during university Rag Week, and sent a demo track to a music publisher.

"Before he knew it, Roger was back in the studio recording his first single, The Charge of the Light Brigade," his biography said.

His next release, Steel Men, picked up airplay while he was still a student, and his career began to progress, with TV work following.

He retired with his wife Natalie in France in 2012.

Geoffrey Davies, who has died aged 84, was a familiar face on television playing the upper-crust, silver-tongued Dr Dick Stuart-Clark in a string of ITV medical sitcoms based on Richard Gordon’s Doctor books.

The actor, whose character has nurses swooning over him, was described by a critic as “blond with good-natured blue eyes and the sort of indolent good looks that suggest cricket matches and tea on the lawn”.

Nicky was told she had cancer in April 2018, after finding a lump in her right breast while showering.

In the space of a week, Nicky suffered a miscarriage, and was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.

But for Nicky, the real shock came one week after the diagnosis, when she was given further bad news. The cancer had already spread, and this time, it was incurable.

'Biggest squeezes'
Despite the news, Nicky decided to document her treatment, capturing the attention of some 300,000 followers online with whom she shared her life, and in doing so, often brought them joy as well as raising awareness.

Known as Nicknacklou, her posts also showed that although you cannot control the condition, you can control how you deal with it.

Celebrities including Stacey Solomon have paid tribute to a cancer campaigner whose positivity urged thousands to "go grab life".

Nicky Newman, from Guildford, Surrey, died from secondary breast cancer on Sunday aged 35.

Her husband Alex announced her death on Instagram on Monday with a post Nicky had already written. It has had more than 250,000 likes.

"Never has a star shone brighter", Stacey wrote on Instagram.

She added: "I'm so grateful to have known you. I promise to go grab life and make the most of every single second of every day."

Maddy Cusack: Sheffield United 'devastated' by death of midfielder aged 27

Sheffield United midfielder Maddy Cusack has died at the age of 27.

Cusack had been at the club since 2019 and became the first player to reach 100 appearances for the women's team last season.

She also worked as a marketing executive at the Women's Championship club, who said they were "devastated".

"This is heartbreaking news for everyone at Bramall Lane," said Sheffield United chief executive officer Stephen Bettis.

"Maddy had a unique position of being part of a number of teams at Sheffield United and was popular with everyone that she came into contact with.

"Her personality and professionalism made her a credit to her family - she will be sadly missed.

"Whilst taking in the news and moving forward, the club will offer as much support as possible to Maddy's family, friends and colleagues."

Cusack's former clubs Birmingham, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest also paid tribute.

The Football Association's director of women's football, Baroness Sue Campbell, said English football's governing body are in contact with Sheffield United and offering them support at this "incredibly sad time".

"On behalf of the FA, the Lionesses, the Women's Super League and the Women's Championship, our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Maddy's family, friends, team-mates and everyone at Sheffield United," she said.

"Maddy also represented England at age-group level and we will pay tribute to her at an appropriate point."
