Anyway, while I disagree in general with you about various things old codgers get I think they should only go to those who haven't got much money.

I'm sure you'll see that as encouraging people to not save up for retirement, but the majority of people haven't got such well paid jobs that they can really do that, and pesnion schemes seem to be a big rip-off with some of the money we put in going to the company that run the scheme, then some going to the same company when we take out the money then some of it going in commission to the company we buy the actual pension from etc.

Am i correct in thinking the highest rate of state pension is about half the minimum wage? (£155 vs £300 pw).

It's not that hard to get a bus pass , I think I did it online.

I use the "loser cruiser" when I'm going into town to put money into the bank - the bus means I don't have to pay for parking.

I've got another great card that gets you 10% off in B&Q on a Wednesday - you can't move in there that day for mumbling old dopes, wearing beige, smelling of urine and telling anyone who'll listen that they can remember when all this were fields.

Half the minimum wage? Assuming they are working 40+ hours a week without paying any tax or NIC? Many older workers are part-time and/or low income self employed without any guaranteed 'living wage'.

Once you're 60 for women /65 you have the option of working and still claiming tax credits or getting your pension and still working. Then all the additional perks of heating/bus/prescriptions etc. You can also now just spend all your private pension pot on what you like - no need for a stupid annuity. Even the ones who haven't saved a penny or paid any NIC still get a decent income from pension credit and all of the associated housing benefits.

If you're 60/65+ and healthy, 'you've never had it so good!'
And they have free Viagra on prescription! what more do they want free cocaine and hookers?

You get more if you paid into the old SERPS scheme.

There are a lot of things wrong with Jeremy Corbyn; but he is no clown. One of the things we have learned in the last 12 months is that he is far more skilful a politician than Theresa May; not to mention arseholes such as Chuka Umunna and the other useless Blairite deadbeats who were so sure that they were going to get rid of him, only now to find themselves shitting yellow because when the new constituency boundaries are imposed in a few years from now, the number of parliamentary constituencies in England will fall by 32 and Mr Corbyn will have a perfect opportunity to do to some of his most outspoken and contemptuous Labour Party enemies exactly what they tried and failed to do to him. I very much doubt if he will forgive them and pretend nothing ever happened when that time comes.

Theresa May was fooled by her own side's propaganda. She thought Mr Corbyn was a pushover and ripe for the kill. He proved to be far more adept at election campaigning than she is. She was the clown, not him.

The pension age for women is now 64/65.
If you are working you pay tax as per normal including on any pensions.Doubtful if you would get any tax credits.
If you are working on minimum wage your tax and NI contributions would amount to about £17 pw giving take home pay of £283 whereas heating allowance adds another £4 pw to basic pension.
Bus passes are available to people who cannot drive for various reasons not just pensioners.
Similarly with prescriptions...around 90% of people in England and Wales do not pay prescription charges.

However i think the "greedy, selfish, baby boomer old bastards" should pay for their own social care with all this income they are getting (nothing to do with "dementia" or "tax" necessarily).
