VEF vs UK porn licenses

Apparently, from April, UK-based punters will need to have age verification to access porn sites.

How about VEF? Does this apply here too? Any such system in place or planned?

I understand the goverments intends to (force ISP providers to) block sites that do not comply with their new regime, but I have read conflicting reports whether that applies just to commercial sites or all...

I live in the States, but I'm NOT posting my driver's license to VEF just so I can look at porn.

Apparently if you don't want to give all your personal information away, you can buy a pass from a newsagent, from one of the major porn distributors

From what little I've seen out there.... Just need to prove you're an adult, like with providing your cc details for a non payment check.... £0.00 charged.

A question that has to be asked for those of us who live in Europe is. Is this proposed legislation legal under the European Human Rights Act?
If not. And in my case I do not care as to whether it is or not. They are not getting their grubby little paws on my personal details.

If this gets in the way of what I currently look at, including VEF, I will simply drop out. I am most certainly not prepared to give anyone my ID or credit card details to look at adult material. Nor am I willing to pay for some kind of verification card at my local newsagents. To use the card will presumably mean logging in somewhere and my Internet address will be picked up at the same time. This will then result in me being effectively put on some kind of "interested in sex" register, almost certainly available to the police and local authorities, who cannot be trusted.

VPN is not (in my opinion) the answer. It doesn't seem to work very well and costs. I also assume the ISPs flag everyone using it, even if they can't tell what you're doing and this could be passed on to the wrong people.

What we have, is an establishment move to introduce yet more heavy handed control over our lives, grab headlines in crap tabloids and pretend to protect children who are supposedly in terrible danger from exposure to a tide of online filth and peversion.

If this is the case, which I rather doubt, the problem lies with their parents who are obviously too thick to exercise any form of discipline over them, despite paying for their phones, computers and ISP connections.

And people wonder why I no longer see any point in voting for anyone in any UK election! What a shambles this country is turning into, run by total twats!

I guess us foreigners will have to see if one day we come to VEF and there is a pop-up page demanding a registration number or something.

If there is, I'm out.

Plenty of other porn places NOT based in the UK I can visit.

Even if people from other nations are granted free access based on our IP addresses, I foresee a sudden and large drop in English membership in the near future, if forums like this are included in the law.

VEF isn't based in the UK AFAIK. And the law potentially applies to all porn places, everywhere.

That's the theory, anyway.

Meaning, for the people who run a porn site: if you do not restrict access from UK-based IP-addresses by demanding age verification, your site will be blocked by ISP providers in the UK. I reckon, most sites will just shrug their shoulders and carry on as ever, ignoring the UK.
