But my point was that the top players need to get way from International cricket for a while, and the counties need the chance to play them too! |

The latest round of central contracts has been announced. Purely on cricket grounds it is no surprise that Stokes has been awarded one.
It has also been announced that Stokes participation in The Ashes has been 'delayed' What is more surprising is another announcement that Jonny Bairstow, Jake Ball and Liam Plunkett have all received written warnings for their conduct. Don't think any of that is related to Bristol so that is something that has been kept quite quiet 'til now. |

All guilty of drinking real ale instead of Greene King IPA water.

The ladies have got the Ashes season under way down under. Day 1 was a bit turgid, with England finishing on 235-7, scoring at only 2.35 runs per over. Hats off though to the Aussies for squeezing in 10 overs more than the 90 that were necessary.
Heather Knight seemed unlucky to be given out LBW when going well on 62. In real time it looked a good decision, but replays suggested it was missing leg stump. Pity there's no DRS. see https://youtu.be/21SakRoVWFY?t=2443 A big moment came with the wicket of Sarah Taylor, caught & bowled by the utterly gorgeous Ellyse Perry. Sarah drove the ball straight back to Perry, who didn't see it at all as it struck her forearm and bounced straight up for her to have a proper go at it. Upon catching it she wasn't so much celebrating as giggling uncontrollably!! see https://youtu.be/21SakRoVWFY?t=11755 .

England story so far:
As yet, no serious cricket has occurred.

Jake Ball is expected to be fit for the first test.
Tom Curran replaces Finn in the squad. Cannot help but think Coad or Porter might have been a better option. Mean while the Ladies have dug in on the final day to gain a draw, barring a collapse of biblical proportions, after Perry's monster knock. |

As if Ellyse Perry doesn't get enough media attention. You ladies had to let he score a double ton.

It seems that Australia wish to inflict some more Paine in the forthcoming Ashes series

The main dangers for England for me are Warner and Smithe in the batting and Starc and Hazelwood in the bowling. The rest seem pretty average or erratic. If these can be neutralized then maybe...
Another thought....is it Root that refuses to have Plunkett and Rashid in the team? They both deserve to be playing....is it back to not how good you are but who you know? Maybe I would watch Women's cricket if they still wore skirts. |
