Default Died before recreational grieving became popular .

They died before recreational grieving became popular ( after Diana )and only got a mention mid way thru the 10 o clock news and just got a page 7 mention in the news papers but now you can make a meal of it in this thread .

I originally thought this up as a joke after the world will supposedly never be the same again after Aretha's death ( like there's never going to be a talented singer again ) but then I thought of Keith Moon .

Man ! There was a larger than life figure who was an extremely talented drummer and was fekkin hilariously funny when he was on form who only got a mid 10 o clock news mention and a non front page feature in the newspapers when he pegged it in 1978 .

They didn't go on fekkin stoopid back then .
Somebody famous has died and that's sad but let's get on with the rest of our lives was the prevailing attitude in 78 .

If he was only in his early 30s and part of a great rock band and died now eh ?

The world would stop turning .
Twatter and bookface would explode under the weight of tributes .

So there you go Keith Moon needs a whole lot of grief .
And my grief is greater than yours .

It's all about me .

Just like Madonna and Aretha

Which is what recreational grieving is all about .

This actually could become a good thread even though I originally meant it as a joke .

Pay some respects to pre Diana people whose sad passing didn't mean the world stopped turning .

Like these
Wethout going into raptures .
( just yet )

Brian Jones .
Ian Stewart
Gram Parsons

Let's have a memorial page for those that passed away before those that are fairly famous and have died equates to the world stop turning like what it does now .

Those who just got a mention mid way thru the 10 o clock news .
Like even Steve McQueen .

Cos they didn't go on fukkin stoopid about somebody famous kicking the bucket in 1980

Or am I just talking bollox again ?

Jim Morrison - I remember when he snuffed it. It was in the music press but bugger all else.

When Eisenhower died naturally it was on the news but they didn't make half the fuss over him [ even though he was ten times the man] that they've made over McCain

Well said .

Death was part of life a generation or so ago so only made article no 5 on the nightly news when even someone of major standing died .

They didn't go on about it for days on end .

Like it or not we'll all face the grim reaper .

Yet he was just mentioned as .....

In other news the punk rock star sid vicious has died

They have been doing recreational grieving in the Middle East for .....well ever.

I'm just really happy not to live there.

Good Idea for a thread though. RIP Glen Miller, Alan Hull, Terry Kath, Jim Clark

I more or less disagree.

The big difference is that back then there was no social media, so you just didn't hear everybody's opinions all the time.

Except that his grave at Pere Lachaise is constantly overrun with grieving fans and tourists.

If that's not recreational grieving, then i don't know what is.

I'm with Chris on this one.

Anyway, my nomination is voice artist Mel Blanc. He died on the same day as celebrated actor Laurence Olivier. Loads about that old ham - but hardly a mention of Bugs, Daffy and a host of others all effectively dying on the same day.
