Before long the programming is going to be in between the commercials instead of the commercials being in between the programming!

Because there is no more left to chop out of programming/shows without making them even more ridiculous and hurky jerky than what some presently are, in order to get in more commercial time some stations have already resorted to start/stop times past the one hour and half-hour time spots they we have been accustomed to for many years!

Wouldn't that end up killing the golden goose? I now watch very little TV because we have hundreds of channels and they always seem to be showing ads!

And in the UK ad breaks are limited to 4 minutes plus "promotional idents". Ten/fifteen minutes would mean but one thing - I ain't watching!

But thank the lord for the BBC - no ads - a bit of waffle and plugs for future programs - but no ads!.

It looks like Hertz might be right.Google Images is messed up again. Either it is a new format or someone in the IT department of Google is screwing with the works. You dolts, cretins, birdbrains, jabberwocks, et al

The BBC may have no ads in the UK, but I don't know how or who is responsible but the BBC stations we get transmitted/broadcasted/received here in the US are loaded with commercials!

You can believe if there is way for the US to intercept and shove their commercials into BBC broadcasting they will do it! With today's technology nothing surprises me anymore.
Who knows, maybe the BBC is getting compensation/kick backs from the station carriers or sponsors here in the US.

Pre-credits in films / movies...

OK, whilst we seem to be on a broadcasting theme, my pet peeve is sitting down to watch a film on TV.

First we get the main production company logo. Follow that up by all the associated company logos..all faded on the screen in sequence. We are by now a good ninety seconds down the line.

Then we get another round but this time in written format.. You know the stuff I mean:

A Universal film..
....in association with Bloggs Cinema
....and Smiths Films
....and half a dozen other companies..

Then... We have to have the names of the major players in production..

... a John Smith film...
.... directed by John Smith
... in association with John Smith's missus....
... produced by John Smiths company..
in association with...etc., etc., etc.

A few more minutes of this then we get the actors....

I accept that the players in the industry need recognition but sometimes it is taken to extremes. It is as bad at the end of the film. I watched one on Netflix last week that went to the end credits rolling with a full eight minutes of the film left.
Before anyone states the obvious and points out that I don't need to read them I should say I know that - and I don't. I usually fast forward through the pre-credits but it ain't easy if the film is being screen on TV.

I've had subscription TV for well over 20 years now so see very few ads, I rarely watch commercial TV, but from what I see here the ads are better than most of the crap on commercial TV

Old flat mate of mine had the ads by the balls

Record everything and fast forward at your leisure

I believe some tech today even attempts to remove the ads

As annoying as ads can be just imagine if the only option was to pay

The curious thing with cable in Australia is only 5 channels are Ad free
40 are no better than free to air

Commercial TV networks’ catch up TV services are forcing viewers to watch the same ads too often, a new survey has found.

the success of US streaming service Hulu which has moved to interactive ads, giving viewers the choice on which they see, or allowing them to pay to see less advertising

“We have also asked respondents who admit to using Hulu via VPN and advertising does not come up nearly as much,” he said.

I agree, the opening credits to some movies are torture and brutal! Assistant to this guy and assistant to that guy, associate producer, co-producer, co-director, lighting, sound, camera, set directors, and each of those had their assistants! Hair styling by Flo of Beverly Hills, wardrobe by Frederick's of Hollywood, and even food provided by Marty's Mobile Eats & Catering ... and the list goes on and on!
Then the closing credits (when I'm in the mood to watch them) have literally hundreds of more personal not included in the opening credits. I can understand those connected/involved with the film wanting their recognition. I wonder how many of those jokers are really necessary and crucial to the film? With a crew and payroll of that magnitude its no wonder some movies cost millions of dollars to make!

If my memory serves me, one of the longest opening credits to a movie I've ever seen was The Fog (1980) with Adrienne Barbeau and Jamie Lee Curtis. I seem to recall them lasting for about 15 minutes! They went on and on! I saw that movie in the theater and I remember jokingly saying to my buddy sitting next to me, I think this movie will be over before the opening credits finish.

I like those old mid-69s and earlier and old black and white movies, their opening credits generally last about a minute and most had no closing credits ... and those that did were typically just the cast of characters.
