Unhappy Your worst internet experience

Ever has one of those days on the internet, and ya wished ya bever has the damn thing ?

The second worst one was on here, a member got banned instantly, I saw what the shit posted, involved a kitten and lighter fluid.. Made me sick, wished I'd never seen it.

The worst was personal. Involved Instant Messenger and Myspace at the time. Saw a few messages left on a screen, I had no idea kids could be that cruel too each other, without going into detail, That was some 7 years ago, even had the internet disconnected for a short while, had to

Whats the worst you've seen or been involved in ?

I've lost a couple of real life acquaintances over what they thought was appropriate to post on my facebook page. I keep that part of cyber life pretty sterile and have way too many professional contacts on there. Didn't like doing it but a couple of people thought it was okay to start a political fight with each other on my wall. Both then got upset that I deleted it, so I blocked them both.

Cyber world isn't the same as real world.

Otherwise it's the crappy service I have at the house with very few reasonable ISP options. Received a notice yesterday that my service my experience frequent interruptions over the next 6 weeks during construction.

I kept hearing how easy it was to pull code of the Internet that would de-crypt a DVD. So I decided to see if it was really that easy (didn't really want to de-crypt).

A search, then a few clicks here and there... and I got connected to kiddie porn. And wherever they sent me WOULD NOT LET ME OUT. The site would not let me close the window, and would not let me back my way out. I had to turn off my computer to make it go away.

Ugh. Disgusting.

Saw my 15 year old niece bullied on Facebook it affected her so badly I will have nothing to do with social media sites.

VEF going down, sometimes for days.

Getting warnings

Anything else I'm old enough to walk away from, I feel sorry for kids, who are almost obliged to interact with social media, there are some bastards out there.

When I first arrived here I complained about a link that didn't work. A member had a go at me and then his friend got involved and we got into a slanging match. In the end I just left the thread. The absolute worst was of course losing my Mod status, one stupid mistake and perhaps being a little obstinate/confrontational with the Administrator lost me my proudest moment and I stayed angry for two years after that...I am a lot more mellow 6 years on

When I came home one day, found my Missus daughter crying in her bedroom, thought it was just a teenage girl thing... Settled her down without getting too know the actual cause of her distress. About 20 minutes later, I went too the computer, it was already turned on but with the screen shut off..... then I saw what I wished I didn't. An IM message too her..... from another 14 or 15 year old....... The message was from another girl, that she was going too "get someone to rape you". Along with the usual, slut, cunt, etc... That still sticks in my mind like it's tattooed there. Kid ya not, I felt sick. Of course, teen girls being just that, stories will get twisted with half truths and so on. This kind of thing continued for a few days. I knew the parents of the other girl, I phoned them and we all agreed too meet. So, at a cafe in town we discussed what was happening, neither blamed each other, luckily they're just as level headed as I can be. So, we both agreed that too have the internet service cut for a short time and approached the school and somehow have both of them kept an eye on.

But too this day, seeing what I saw on that screen makes me sick that a 15 year old could even think that

Probably the worst for me was a couple of years ago. I kept my old PC running for about 10 years with minimal changes and being very careful with downloads. I ran Windows XP SP1 because I had a lot of old programs that only ran under that OS. Then my anti-virus software stopped supporting SP1 and I got one of those ransomware infections. I went to one of those tech sites that supposedly help you out, got taken on by an 'expert', installed and ran all the programs he said to run. Result: complete destruction of my OS and a dead machine. To make matters worse the rescue disk had stopped working it was so old and the company I'd bought the PC from had gone bust. By this time I was getting online at the library. Once the PC was completely dead the 'expert' just washed his hands of the whole thing.

In all I was without a working PC for about three months and that is just agony in this day and age .

On a more personal note, I got into a political discussion on another forum, quite objectively, but this other guy got more and more personally abusive, to the point I just left the site, which I'd been on for years. I think it's a very common occurence.

Probably worst was having a close family member, a nephew specifically, take advantage of me financially through facebook. He said he needed money to get his car fixed so he wouldn't lose his job, and that he asked my sister and she couldn't help him. I lent him 800 dollars that he said he would pay back over 4 months. I was stupid to believe him without first talking to my sister and it turned out he had a real bad drug problem and that's where my money went. He's never paid back one cent, and I found out from my mother I was probably the last one in the family he had pulled this on. He's never paid me or any of the rest of us back and my sister says he acts real angry over why he isn't invited over for thanksgiving and Xmas anymore, and why he doesn't get presents. Well duh.

The new "FBI warning" scam that locks up your computer and tells you to pay $200 for something or another. I have figured out how to force quit my web browser and get around this scam, because it is _not_ a law enforcement agency, but it is annoying as all get out.
