You cant be banned for not posting....220,000 of them with 0 posts at last count in April prove that

Its breaking the rules constantly/making unnecessary and unwanted work for Moderators to clean up that gets you turfed off and Blocked or Banned,

Like Hos says the 2 terms really mean the same thing and the difference is down to what best suits the forum not why they were banned/blocked.

that applies to newbies, veterans and everyone in between.

Get to big for your boots/act foolishly/dont read the rules/assume all forums are the same
or decide to thumb your nose at those in power = goodbye

On another forum that I joined recently simply to see what they were about was an unusual

yes or no question,

Are you a spammer? I was almost tempted to post yes simply to see what would happen but it reminded me all too much that there are many who join forums only to post their upgrade links which to me are largely pointless with the exceptions of replacing the very worst copies that often miss minutes of scenes

Theres no substitute when first joining a forum for simply surfing through it from section to section, getting familiar with the user CP & FAQ,downloading/collecting and thanking, venturing into each different section, taking note of all the different rules/information stickies

I spent 2 solid months back in 2007 before i even thought about making a post and I was still wet behind the ears when I eventually posted for the first time but no deletions(apart from my own 700+) that anyone has ever told me about in 3 years cant be by accident.

Working out how everything works as opposed to other forums is always worthwhile because i know all too well no 2 forums are alike

The guy who comes in and posts 5 requests in a day/week etc
or 1 request which would require a team of archeologists/linguists/detectives a lifetime to decipher/interpret and find stands a very good chance of being ignored or even asked to change their ways

Its no different to real life in many ways

You dont need to become part of the forum furniture to contribute as evidenced by what occurs when you download a link and says thanks...the link is kept alive and the uploader is given a reason to share more

Taking your time before posting anything makes a lot of sense

I must admit I plunged right in and not stopped since,I've had a fair few deletions but not all were My fault.

im trying buttsie's route with another forum, but every time i try to post an answer to someone's querie of whatever, i seem/feel like im being ignored, just because i dont have a high post count. having a decent count here, its better, but i know what it feels like for some newbies who are desparate to try and fit in or contribute; but feel the same....

what a lot of newbies fall down on though, imho.... is that they dont look back through threads before posting something they think is good..... "Hey guys; found this; isnt it brilliant; why am i not being thanked by loads of you!" well, the reason often is, because only a couple of pages back the same image had already been posted; and often in bigger or better siez than this 'new' one.....!!! that being said... that's my advice to newbies... by all means post; but please check back a few pages first if it's some well known model/celeb.... it'll save you so much grief in the long run.....

I try the read and learn method. It is not fool proof but I have done not to bad by it. Everybody makes a mistake now and then, but a warning should be enough to pull the horns in.

I'm more of the dramatic type running for that chasm ahead confident I'll be able to jump over it - then deciding it's not a good idea - slowing down my headless chicken run to a halt - then deciding to jump anyway... Nice to have friends to pull me up by the fingertips then...

you got it better than me kogi. i never see the deep stuff first. i just run and make the leap. posting here is more of an adventure than many places. never quite know when a mod will have an off day and delete. am old and done this type stuff since internet first started and use net fell away. some days i think i got it squared away and then a comment from a mod i was wrong. sort of like marriage, dam**d if you do and if you dont. still better than 99.9999 per cent of anyplace else.

Default New here... Trying to read the notes

Hey there... I'm kinda new to this forum and I have been lurking around and also saw that some people were blocked. I get kind of nervous when joining new forums because a lot of people seem to be willing to blow the SPAM whistle without even considering that there is a real human being behind it. Get's kind of annoying especially when youre enjoying the forum and just want to reply to everything because you feel like it...

"Enthusiastic posting" does not equal to spam!

If you play by the rules you'll be OK. Don't lurk come out and play we all get on fine.

Nobody gets banned or blocked without a reason. As BB has already pointed out, stick within the rules and you'll be ok. Unfortunately that is often the biggest failing on here, people especially newbies, fail to read the rules on the login page when they come in.
For the sake of an extra 10-20 minutes, it could well save you from being thrown out. It's obvious by some postings that a member hasn't read the rules, if he is not sure on something, he should ask. Members get banned or blocked for the simplest of things at times, but 9 times out of 10, it is their own fault.
