Couldn't find a techie help subforum, so please excuse if this question is in the wrong place.

I have tried a few shareware media joiners but have come to a deadend when trying to use them.

Would like to get recommendations on a popular freeware/shareware which has to proven to work reliably in joining several wmv wma mpg avi files together.

I use HJSplit for joining split .001, .002, etc split files, but it don't seem to recognize self-contained wmv wma avi mpeg files. It would even show them on its file browser/selector.

Google for Virtualdub - great for joining avi's.

This is a huge subject but here's what I use.

AVI

Peck Joiner.

If that fails then -

Virtual Dub.

If that fails (and it can owing to very slight variations in frame rate between avi segments) -

Aviutil (install defaults to Japanese language.* If you decide to* use it email me and I'll let you know which buttons/menu options to use to get English language.

WMV/ASF

ASFtools

I find AsfTools a bit temperamental for joining and that AsfBinMaster is faster and less fussy. AsfTools is better for cutting/editing though.
Pecks doesn't like 50% of my avi's and I get more success with VirtualDubMpeg as long as you know how to use it (also does mpegs and vobs)..
For most Mpegs I use MpgJoin, very simple but effective.
Nero 7 works with a lot of files.

I usually find that AsfTools won't join more than about three files at a time - hence I have to join everything in stages. Thanks for the pointer to AsfBinMaster, I've just downloaded it and will give it a try next time.

I'm not a big fan of ASFtools...I've had a number of wmv files where the joined files suddenly had blocking issues were the orginals were fine.

I haven't used AsfBinMaster but it looks like it might be a nice program.

I can recommend however ASFbin GUI. It is a great little program for joining and cutting wmv/asf files. I have even found it useful in repairing wmv files with it's numerous advanced features.
