Default March Madness

Well, It's that time of year again.

A lot of us college basketball fans fill out tournament brackets with the hopes of winning some good money.

This years tournament has a team, Kentucky, that looks to go undefeated.
That's an achievement not undertaken since the 1976 Indiana Hoosier team did it.

For those who are following it- here's the bracket:

(click thumb to view full size)

So, what do you think?

Will Kentucky run the field?
If they do, they'll end up 40-0.

Did your team make it in?

How do you feel about how the teams were seeded?

Did the committee pick the right teams?

Did anybody get hosed?

As for my team, Michigan State, I see them beating Georgia on Friday, then falling to Virginia in the next round.
Just can't see them getting past a team that good.

Maryland should have been a three seed; Ohio State should have gotten better than a ten seed; Indiana was just plain lucky to get in considering their late season drop-off.

If Arizona and Wisconsin meet in the regional finals, That could be a great "flip-a-coin" match.

Feel free to weigh in with your own thoughts.

I went to Maryland, and they got their seed because of the way they crapped out against your Spartans. I expect them to get to the sweet 16, and I hope they give Kentucky a good game. I'd like to think someone can beat Kentucky, but it doesn't look like it. Dayton got screwed and got a big advantage. They should not be in the playin game, but getting to play at home is a big advantage. If any outsiders make it to the Final 4, I think it will be Wichita State or Northern Iowa. And Duke and NC can't lose fast enough for me.

My alma mater typically isn't really a player in athletics. Except the women's team is pretty good this year. I typically cheer for Ohio State as I was born in Columbus and lived there through 15-16 years and the world revolved around the Buckeyes. I expect the holy and good Buckeyes to make it past their opening game . . .maybe. And then quickly lose.

Kentucky is easily the best team on paper. They really remind me of '75 Indiana Hoosiers and to a lessor extent the '91 UNLV Rebels. They're still young. But really good. The game is different from 25+ years ago. Most of the teams are really young. Kentucky might be vulnerable to a very solid team with a few upperclass players who can play on the next level. Kentucky has the raw talent, no doubt. But if they run into a crafty veteran team, that could be the equalizer.

Well, being a Wisconsin alum, I'm pretty happy about the #1 seed. But I don't follow college basketball anywhere near as close as I follow football. But I think the Badgers should do pretty well and hopefully win a championship.

I do have to say though I think this is the best tournament in existence. I love it that a school like Wofford (who the hell are they and is that really a school?) can get in and actually do some damage (remember Butler a few years ago?).

I would be interested to know what people think of Kentucky. My understanding is they've decided on a tactic where they somehow get the best players out there, but only for one year. Then after that first year the players are off to the NBA. Is this really what they are doing? And if it is does that really make sense? Shouldn't kids be in school to learn something? Not just part of the conveyor belt to the NBA?

And is this why the Big 10 is suggesting freshman are all redshirted for their first year?

The UB Bulls won their first MAC title and earned their first invite to the Big Dance. They got a 12 seed and will play 5 seed West Virginia tomorrow in Columbus. If Bobby Hurley's Bulls can pull a couple of upsets, they've got a chance at a possible rematch with the #1 Kentucky Wildcats.

So this Buff State alum is pulling for our crosstown sister school. Go Bulls!

Just heard something in the background that a #3 seed has lost? Already?

Greatest tournament ever devised.

Yeah! Actually a couple.

#3 Baylor in the West and #3 Iowa State in the South both lost.

Other higher seeds, such as North Carolina, have had close calls.

Hey, wait a minute, aren't both of those teams from the Big 12? I thought that was supposed to be the best conference in the land this year? And their two #3 seeds have already lost?

Plus Texas lost, which was no biggie as many thought they shouldn't have even been in the Dance.

This team showed promise early.
Ranked as high as no. 8 in the polls, they had a very inconsistent season.
They had a losing record in their conference and went 3-10 vs. ranked teams.

Their RPI and BPI were 42nd and 28th respectively, so that's why the committee put them in, as those are considerably pretty decent.
