Mods if I'm being naughty please remove this thread.

The Lots that contain the Matchbox kits are worth a bid, the rest like the old kits like Airfix and Monogram - I don't think are worth it
The Lot that has two x HMS Exeter 1/700 scale Kits included in the lot sale
is the most valuable -
I reckon the new Trumpeter 1/350 HMS Exeter kit ( when it finally appears - maybe in 2018 )
will make that kit obsolete , though , as the Matchbox kit needs a LOT of work - to make it actually accurate ...

Default moving along ...

The forward superstructure and 4 inch guns are now added to the Hull
( note the 2 hollow voice-pipes at the Compass Binnacle
( nearest the front of bridge to the right in the picture ) -
these are actually Imperial Japanese Navy 1/350 voice pipes but look great
I have only the anchor chain , 2 Masts and 3 Carley Rafts to add, with the Pennant Number and Rigging needing to be done .
The Kit Display Stand will be made with the 2 bespoke Name Plates added to it !

I had the Glass Firm measure me up a glass shelf and get me a price on Monday

Making great progress on this terrific Model Kit

( I can't wait to exhibit in the Acrylic Display case alongside HMS Cossack )
anyway , fitted the aft and fore masts - and got the Pennant Number painted onto the side of the hull , and fitted the Carley Life rafts to the ship

next I need to fit the Ships Boats and anchor , and the anchor chains on the deck , and some rigging work - and complete the Display Stand
and then its time to hoist the White Ensign !

and she is finally completed - using brass aftermarket 4 inch guns , photo-etch , brass depth charges , aftermarket AA pom-pom gun with hollow barrel - extra photo-etch , Shapeways Refit Bridge and new Rangefinder and Director Control , Signal Lamps and Semaphores mine rail fairings added , brass flag poles and an aftermarket Nameplate - made specially a few months ago ..and a huge amount of extra detailing work

anyway - this is the 1/350 Scale V & W Class Destroyer

Thank you , I appreciate that !

It is pretty sad that the guy that created the Model and did the CAD design work died last year soon after completion , and never got to see his work brought to fruition -
However the Model has been a big success - sales wise
apparently for the Australian Company - Showcase Models -
which is nice to report .
I think it speaks volumes that a little Australian company can create a British Warship in 1/350 scale - but our own Airfix can't create anything that is not a re-print of a 1970's or early 1980's Mould ( eg HMS Repulse )
( and HMS Hood in 1/600 is even older , from 1960 ) .

They are letting the Chinese take over the Warship market for Royal Navy Ships in a big way ( next year will probably be the release of HMS Exeter in 1/350 scale - and probably be the Battle of River Plate 1939 - version )
It seems to me with the Japanese and Chinese -
its a case of ' If we sunk it in the Far East, we'll build it as a Model ' ..

Arrow 2 Destroyers to Scale ( 1/350 scale )

I thought I would take a couple of pictures , showing the difference in size of the V & W Class compared to the Tribal Class - visually
so that HMS Walker ( Length 312 feet or 95 metres ) is at the back and positioned dead centre of
HMS Cossack ( Length 377 feet or 115 metres ) - if they were both placed in line , then the Bow of HMS Walker only comes up to the ' A ' Turret of HMS Cossack ( Turret on right side of photo , on the deck ) -

the second lot of photos shows the difference in beam ( width ) between
HMS Walker ( 29 feet 6 inches , 9m ) HMS Cossack ( 36ft 6 inches , 11m )
and above all , the difference when they are placed side by side , in line at the stern and how long the Super-Destroyer Tribal Class were compared to the normal V & W Class Destroyer .

The great thing about building in one standard scale is that the difference in size between a Battleship and a Destroyer becomes really striking , and you understand why it took longer to build a Battleship , as there is so much more to add , and its more complicated - and varied !

Default an update on HMS Repulse 1/350

This is a little update to where I have got , gathering materials for the forthcoming build ( next Year ) for the Trumpeter HMS Repulse in 1/350 scale - I now have bought the out-of-production
ADMIRALTY MODELWORKS HMS Repulse upgrade set - which also cost me £ 17.57 in Customs fees and ' Royal Mail handling fees ' !!

The first photo ( with 2 yellow arrows ) shows the incorrect Deckhouses which need to replaced .
When HMS Repulse emerged from a winter 1938-1939 refit at Portsmouth it had undergone some changes, particularly in the features of its
aft ( rear ) superstructure.

Two of the most notable changes were the result of Repulse being nominated for duty as Royal Yacht for HM Tour of Canada and the United States in 1939. Where the ship had been fitted since 1936 with port and starboard gun houses, each with a twin 4-inch experimental BD (between decks) AA mounting, there now stood accommodation shelters for the Queen (portside) and King's staff (starboard).

The starboard gun house was completely removed, along with its AA mounting and internal fittings; in its place was built a new, much larger structure, containing a bath and cabins for the King's staff. This structure was approximately 43 feet in length and some 16 feet wide.

On the port side the gun house was partially preserved, but still extensively reconstructed. This became the "Queen's Shelter", again fitted with cabins and appointed internally with fine accommodations. Unlike the starboard shelter, it was left the same length and width, but its tapered aft portion was modified to a fully rectangular form in order to increase interior space.

The second and third photos shows the White Resin correction superstructure and deckhouse set ( and the incorrect plastic for the 2 deckhouses removed ) .
The 4th photo ( which is taken from the accurate Kagero HMS Repulse booklet - published in 2010 , and now out of print ) shows the 1941 configuration of HMS Repulse and the 2 Royal deckhouses as I described earlier - and the 5th photo shows the full details of the Admiralty Modelworks HMS Repulse set with all the aftermarket upgrades it contains ( including a delightful HMS Repulse ships crest )

The last 3 photos show the Flyhawk HMS Repulse super-detail set and the instructions - and very detailed and comprehensive .
The last photo shows the full details of what the Flyhawk super-detail set gives to the Model and will make a huge difference to the look of the kit .

When I have more money , I need to buy for the Model , 3 sets of the Octuple 2pdr Pom-Pom Mounting to replace the awful kit examples , and buy 4 sets of 0.5 inch AA guns ( like the ones used on HMS Cossack ) to fit to the Model ...

It has been a busy few weeks !

When I was 13 or 15 which brings us back to the late 80s, my cousin offered me as a Christmas Gift av Honda CB750 Four. Pretty sure it was a Heller model, close to the one on the pic I included in my post.
Building this model was a real pain in the ass for a kid with no patience who liked model kits a lot but almost couldn't stand the delay between the unboxing and the finished, painted product. I guess it took me more than 2 years to accomplish the achievement of the Honda but I finally managed to do it between playing football, video games at the arcade orAD&D during busy saturday afternoons.
Proud as I was, I put in my room on the shelf of a bookcase. It survived something like 6 months before a friend o'mine who visited me decided to take a look at the motorcycle a little closer and dropped it because he was a fucking clumsy dumbass. The Honda exploded while reaching the floor. Then I quit the modeling world.

The trick with Models - is put them somewhere peaceful , like your
Study-room ( my 2nd bedroom - which I converted ) or your livingroom
and above all , get them inside a Display Case ( Acrylic are the best type )
so it deters someone trying to touch them ..

why not try again , or if you don't have the time and its something you are interested in ?
get someone to build it for you , for a fee -
if you like I can recommend a couple if you are in the uk ??
( and then get it delivered using a box full of micro poly-balls - so its cushioned from postal transit damage )
just a thought ...
