This lady was spotted by spartaneric who asked me to write it up. Brandi Lee Weaver-Gates is a resident of Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania USA. She is aged 23 and was entering the first stages of local celebrity by entering beauty pageants. Indeed she had experienced her first success when she entered and won the title 'Miss Pennsylvania U.S. International 2015.' She had a chance to put aside her three jobs, at Strawberry Fields, as a youth cheerleading coach, and as a restaurant server.

So all looked set for further triumphs but there was a sad side to her successes. A health check in 2013 had uncovered the fact that Ms Weaver-Gates had got chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. She informed her friends and they started fund raising to raise the money to start treatments ... several fundraisers were held to help her with medical bills, with the most recent event "Bingo for Brandi," which was held in April, raising $14,000.

.... It was all a lie. Apart from a bad case of acne face, she was fit as a fiddle. The police had received an anonymous letter that claimed she couldn’t name any of her doctors. Investigations were started and when confronted with what the investigation revealed, "the accused advised that she did not want to incriminate herself and invoked her right to an attorney." The police arrested Ms Weaver-Gates on August the 11th 2015, and charged her with theft by deception, and receiving stolen property. She was booked into the Centre County prison on Tuesday afternoon. Her bond was set at $150,000, and she remains jailed at the Centre County Correctional Facility.

Apparently, she would have friends and relatives drive her to the John Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, and then tell them to wait in the lobby. She then allegedly would go into another part of the hospital, only to return hours later so as to appear as though she had received treatment. She also said she was also a patient at Geisinger Medical Center, and UPMC Medical centres. The police said none of the facilities listed her as a patient. To keep up the sham, she would even shave her head to mimic chemotherapy treatment side effects.

The pageant organisers issued a statement which included the fact that "Effectively [sic] immediately, Ms. Weaver-Gates is no longer a representative of the Miss Pennsylvania U.S. International organization and will be required to return her crown and sash upon her release from being detained."

Amy Laban is a 25 year old model and beauty contestant, who has modelled for Gap, and who was a Miss England semi-finalist in 2012. She had also competed in the 'Miss24Carat2014' competition, where she represented Nottingham. But the year 2012 was a funny old year for her, because she also claimed to have suffered a whiplash injury after a road traffic accident in April 2012 in the Queensway area of Birmingham, and made an insurance claim.

She later returned to modelling and was said to be "with everything going for her" ..... and she had recently started a career as a PE teacher.

.... Insurance investigators obtained damning photos of her taking part in gruelling fitness tests for the beauty pageant and participating in a skydive while she claimed to be injured. The day after the crash Laban's Twitter page revealed she was preparing for a charity skydive. She later also said she was taking training for Miss England and playing for Birmingham.

Six weeks after the crash she posted a picture on Twitter showing her riding a Bucking Bronco rodeo bull machine.

The matter went to court and the Judge said: "The claim was fraudulent right from the start. People think this is a victimless crime, however, it uses the courts resources to facilitate the crime; it uses insurers' resources. Genuine claimants have the eye of suspicion cast on their claims. The courts have stressed repeatedly that those who commit this must receive prison sentences."

Laban said she was “young, vulnerable, stupid, but also taken advantage of by a claims company”.

Ms Laban and her co-defendant both admitted to the deception and pleaded guilty to contempt of court and were both jailed for two months for her part in the £3,000 car insurance scam.

While trying to promote her music career in August 2010, she appeared at the 'Gathering of the Juggalos' music festival where her performance was ended when she was repeatedly pelted with rocks and bottles among other objects. In 2012, it was reported that she had entered into drug rehab after having reportedly "almost died" from an attempted suicide by overdosing on pills. The incident caused her to be hospitalized from a brain aneurysm.

On August 27, 2015, she entered the UK Celebrity Big Brother house as a contestant representing the USA. She was ejected from the house after just one day, due to many viewer complaints of her participation after she was found to have posted anti-Semitic comments, and praised dictator Adolf Hitler on Facebook ("Why I Sympathize with Hitler: Part I" .... Hitler was a 'special and sweet kid'), where she has referred to herself as 'Hitila'. She then posted a picture of herself wearing Nazi clothing in front of Auschwitz. It has been reported that she will not receive a £113,000 pay-out from show.

Her Facebook profile has been temporarily suspended at least eight times by the social network, for a series of offensive posts. She has subsequently apologized for all her earlier public comments, blaming them on 'depression and drug addiction' and grief over the death of a lover, heiress Casey Johnson in 2009 .... so that's all right then. She has asked to be readmitted to UK Celebrity Big Brother house ...

Aysha Soper is a plastic fantastic model from Canvey Island, Essex, UK, who seems to use the name 'Barbie' (because of her particular body shape ... she has spent up to £6,000 on two breast enlargement operations). She made the news in the UK, when it was claimed that she managed to have sex with her petty criminal boyfriend. Nothing odd about that, except that he was under prison guard at the time, as he is serving two years for driving while disqualified, handling stolen goods and possessing a prohibited item in prison.

The 24 year old model said that prison escort guards took the handcuffs off her boyfriend and let them enjoy ‘birthday sex’ in a shower at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. She said that she was visiting him while he was in hospital when this happened. During his stay, she claims she spent most of the time with the covers pulled over and lay there cuddling and watching TV, and also performed sex acts on him.

“He messaged me to say, ‘I think they’d let us in showers together’. I wasn’t too sure they would because they had three screws meant to be watching and handcuffed to him constantly. He said bring a bag with toiletries so it looks like I’m not dodgy.

“He only had a vest on. They tried to make him wear prison pyjamas but he said no. I had bright red lipstick on, skinny jeans and a tight top. I thought there was no way they’d let me in the showers but they did.”

"They took his handcuffs off and let us both into the shower together and we locked the door and two of the screws stood outside. It felt naughty, knowing he was a prisoner. I wish they’d let him keep his handcuffs on." she giggled to the newspapers.

“I kept saying what would happen if they caught us? But they didn’t. They acted like they didn’t know what was going on — but it was obvious. We had birthday sex in the shower. He wasn’t allowed any presents but was allowed in the shower with me. That was a good enough present.”

The Prisons Minister Andrew Selous said: "We have opened an urgent investigation into these allegations. If they are proven, the public will rightly be shocked that a convicted offender should be able to behave like this while serving a prison sentence. Our staff do important and difficult work. If individuals have failed in their duty, they will face the strongest disciplinary penalties possible." .... strangely no mention of punishment for the prisoner or the model .... she's got free publicity, and he's gone to a softer prison

This was the second such report this week ... a notorious gangster, who was jailed for a drive-by shooting, took selfies of himself enjoying sex sessions while in hospital.

Karin Shubert was born in Hamburg, Germany during the second world. In the post war era the new West Germany arose, and Ms Shubert graduated as a secretary of administration. Her Germanic good looks led her into modelling and she posed for various magazines and running commercials, including for Peroni beers.

Courted by the films, she moved to Italy where she became a film actress. Her first roles were in the late 1960's when she was aged 23 in 'La facocera' in 1967. Her roles were often 'sexy' ones, but she also had considerable success in serious roles. However European cinema started to fail in the late 1970's and serious roles dried up.

She married a man who worked for Opel cars in 1970, with whom she had one child and is divorced now. She has suffered with mental health issues in later life, with a number of reported attempted suicides a few years ago, and was interned in to pa sychiatric hospital in 1996. But her current whereabouts are not known. She was last known to be living in Manziana between Rome and Viterbo in Italy, with her many dogs.

She is perhaps best remembered for being in 'Companeros' in 1970, 'Delusions of Grandeur' in 1971, 'Bluebeard' in 1972, and 'Black Emanuelle' in 1975, in a 67 credit career.

When Lila Leeds got arrested for possession of marijuana, there was another girl caught in the net. Vickie Evans, who was a friend of Ms Leeds and who was a dancer.

The press reported the arrest on August 31st, 1948, and Ms Evans was the other girl arrested, together with actor Robert Mitchum, on charges of marijuana possession. Leeds and Mitchum were found guilty in January 1949 ... they both subsequently spent sixty days in jail.

Ms Evans went to court and claimed she had been framed by the police .... and the jury of eight men and four women in the superior court believed her statement that "The officers pushed me into the living rooms. I didn't smoke any marijuana I didn't know any was in the house" ... she was acquitted of conspiracy to possess marijuana and a second charge of actual possession was dropped because of lack of evidence.

So far so good .....

.... but later in the same year she was arrested again ... this time when Hollywood police raided an illegal gambling joint called 'Vets Club' and pulled in 27 people . She was charged with 'Vagrancy' and was sent for a hearing at Beverly Hills justice court, where she faced a fine.

Jennifer Ann Lien was born in Palos Heights, Illinois USA. She began performing in a summer theatre and festivals at the age of 13. Her first television appearance was in a bubble gum advertisement playing twins. She moved to New York at the age of 16 and her first TV appearance in a series was in 1990 in an episode of 'Brewster Place'. She then landed a series regular role in the series 'Another World' in 1991. Her breakthrough role came in 1994, when she was cast as the alien 'Kes' on 'Star Trek: Voyager'. The only other point of note was that she appeared in the movie 'American History X'.

Married with a child she has retired from acting ... or perhaps the roles dried up on what was a comparatively sparse career. Whatever, she was said to be training to work as a nutritionist after her acting retirement.

On 07/03/2012, she was arrested in Harriman, Tennessee, for an alleged domestic assault at 521 Sewanee St .... The charges were either dropped, not pressed, or she was adjudicated 'not guilty'.

In April 2015, she was arrested in Harriman, Tennessee, and charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault in relation to an alleged speeding offence. She was spotted by Harriman police speeding on North Roane Street in her Chevrolet Cavalier, and during the pursuit she placed her car in reverse, and rammed a police car in a failed attempt to get away. They police used a “rolling roadblock” to stop her, but then she allegedly refused to exit the car and it was then that she pulled the ramming manoeuvre. She was detained in custody at the Roane County Jail, and finally bailed to appear at Roane County General Sessions Court in June 2015 with a trial expected later this year.

In September 2015, Lien was arrested in Harriman, Tennessee, for two counts of 'misdemeanour exposure' after allegedly exposing herself to a child under the age of 13 during an argument with a neighbour. The argument started when Ms Lien criticised the neighbours parenting skills after her children began crying. MA row ensued in which Ms Lien used 'vulgar language'. Lien then allegedly lifted up her shirt and dropped her panties, after the neighbour told her to "mind her own business". True to recent form Ms Lien then reportedly threatened the police who arrested her, and refused to put any clothes on, as she was naked (with the exception of a bed sheet) when the police arrived. While Lien said she was expecting them, she still refused to put on any clothes. The police reportedly cuffed her, and dressed her with a shirt and pants from the jail ...... bail was set at $2,500.

Thank god for models ..... You can always rely on them to get into trouble. One thing that is a certainty is that, drugs, models and South America are a potent mix likely to end up being recorded in this thread.

Juliana Lopez is a Columbian entrepreneur, student, TV Presenter and model ('Oh no, not Columbia' I hear you say .... Oh yes, you were right), but lets do her the courtesy of telling her story. She is a 22 year old beauty pageant winner, winner of the 'Miss World Medellin' title, who also played for a local soccer clubs ladies team named “Las Divas del Futbol”.

She was scheduled to compete in the Miss World Medellin pageant in July 2015. Her future looked bright .... but it was a date which she missed ...

She went to China to buy clothing, accessories and other souvenirs she could sell back home in her trendy boutique, and this was her second such buying trip to that country. However for reasons that we can't possibly imagine, she either decided, or was persuaded to carry drugs on her person inside the country.

She was arrested on the 18th of July 2015 at the airport in Guangzhou, after a customs search, where psychoactive drugs were found hidden in her laptop computer. A crime which in China is punishable by life in prison or the death penalty.

When her family lost contact with her during the trip, they contacted the Columbian embassy in China, which then confirmed her arrest. The Columbian Miss World contest, Miss Mundo, said Lopez had been dropped from the competition. Her immediate future is not bright ...

Lidiane (or Lidiana) Leite Da Siva (aka Lidiane Rocha), is a 25 year old girl from Brazil. She is, or perhaps was is a better term, the mayoress of the Brazilian town of Bom Jardim, which is about 275 kilometers (170 miles) southwest of Sao Luis, the capital of the tropical Maranhao state, which borders the Atlantic Ocean.

She rose to this august position of leadership over the town of 39,000 people, in one of Brazil's poorest states in 2012/13, when her boyfriend (or husband, reports vary) at the time, a Mr Humberto Dantas dos Santos (aka 'Beto Rocha'), ran for mayor of Bom Jardim. But two days before the vote, he was barred from participating in the elections, because of allegations of corruption, and Ms Leite stepped in to replace him.

Strangely this was allowed, and even more strangely (considering the number of 'aka's this couple employed), she won, and thus this unlikely political career was launched. Her ticket had promised the eradication of illiteracy, expansion to meet demand in high schools and kindergartens, and the installation of libraries in rural schools.

Unlike in the UK (apart from London), where the role is largely ceremonial, Brazilian mayors run their towns, and as a child of the facebook generation, she took an unusual approach to the role. She immediately left town, and took up residence in the state capital Sao Luis. Her motto appeared to be 'there's an app for that' .... and she was renowned for often sending in mayoral orders to town hall staff over phone apps like 'WhatsApp'.

The Brazilian media quickly nicknamed her "Mayor Showoff" after she frequently posted pictures of herself at nightclubs and parties in Sao Luis drinking champagne, and travelling in luxury cars.

Her flaunting of a luxurious lifestyle that her salary couldn't afford (including expensive plastic surgery ... she promised a 'new face' in politics), plus the fact that her now ex-boyfriend was indicted on the corruption charges and was in jail, meant that the police soon widened the investigations, and Ms Leite was in their sights. They investigated claims that she had been siphoning off funds earmarked for school lunches and refurbishments, and with some $4m (£2.6m) in funds for Bom Jardim's schools 'missing', and the teachers not getting paid, the town's already precarious education system collapsed.

They issued a warrant for her arrest and she went on the run for 12 days. She reportedly only agreed to turn herself in to the police in the state capital Sao Luis, after being given assurances she would not be taken to the 'infamous' (aren't they all in South America?) Pedrinhas jail, but that she would be held in a local fire station.

Her lawyer says that Ms Leite inadvisably chose Mr Rocha as her main adviser, and delegated many tasks to him, and was "too young and inexperienced when she took office". We will have to wait and see whether her 'ex' is going to take all the rap alone .... or her next selfies will be from Pedrinhas jail after all.

Linda Blair (b. St. Louis, Missouri but raised in Westport, Connecticut USA. She began her career as a child model and graduated to daytime soap TV shows aged eight when her first role was in 'Hidden Faces' in 1968. Aged eleven she gained her first theatrical film appearance in 'The Way We Live Now' in 1970. She peaked as an actress when she was given her role in the infamous 1973 horror sensation 'The Exorcist'.

She got a Golden Globe and People's Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well as an Academy Award nomination for that part. She reprised her role in the sequel, 'Exorcist II: The Heretic' in 1977, and was given a Saturn Award nomination for Best Actress of 1978. Sadly the role had defined her forever and although she appeared in a number of other movies, she never gained the heights that her first movie promised. She has since largely made her 74 credit career with a succession of successful but low-budget horror and exploitation films such as women-in-prison film 'Chained Heat' in 1983, and the femme fatale vigilante action film 'Savage Streets' in 1984 and also the Exorcist send-up 'Repossessed' in 1990.

Apart from her animal charity work she also still does cameo roles and she also makes frequent appearances at horror fan conventions to celebrate the legacy of 'The Exorcist'.

Not unnaturally 'The Exorcist' was deeply disliked by the religious right in the USA, and she received death threats after it premiered. Warner Brothers hired the police to live with the Blair family 24 hours a day, for 6 months, but stopped once promotional work on the movie was done. However threats from fanatics and religious zealots continued, including after the release of the film's sequel. Her family hid her out with friends, and the original threat makers were never caught.

She was introduced to drugs and cocaine usage while battling depression, and a drinking problem following her parents divorce and a relationship break up. She bought cocaine with friends when she flew to Florida to attend funerals for members of the band 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' in 1977. She kept in touch with the drug dealers when she went home. She later stated that she was more interested in buying some pedigree puppies which the dealers were also selling, and that she was arranging to buy one when she rang them from her home. However when she went for the puppy, she also bought some drugs .... the DEA swooped ,and along with 30+ others, she was arrested.

She was charged with conspiracy to buy the cocaine from Florida to sell in Connecticut. Police searched her purse, found amphetamines, and then charged her with possession. The possession charge was dropped, and the conspiracy charge was reduced. She was ordered to serve three years probation, pay a $5,000 fine, and make at least twelve major public appearances to tell young people about the dangers of drug abuse. The much-publicised drug bust caused Linda to be unofficially blacklisted in Hollywood for major roles.

Brandi Lee Weaver-Gates is a resident of Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania USA. She is aged 23 and was entering the first stages of local celebrity by entering beauty pageants. Indeed she had experienced her first success when she entered and won the title 'Miss Pennsylvania U.S. International 2015.' She had a chance to put aside her three jobs, at Strawberry Fields, as a youth cheerleading coach, and as a restaurant server. So all looked set for further triumphs but there was a sad side to her successes. A health check in 2013 had uncovered the fact that Ms Weaver-Gates had got chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. She informed her friends and they started fund raising to raise the money to start treatments ... several fundraisers were held to help her with medical bills, with the most recent event "Bingo for Brandi," which was held in April, raising $14,000. Quote: "I didn't know how to tell my family and even though they were there through it all, it still feels like (you're) battling it alone because they don't understand" .... she told a newspaper in an interview last year. Oops: .... It was all a lie. Apart from a bad case of acne face, she was fit as a fiddle. The police had received an anonymous letter that claimed she couldn’t name any of her doctors. Investigations were started and when confronted with what the investigation revealed, "the accused advised that she did not want to incriminate herself and invoked her right to an attorney." The police arrested Ms Weaver-Gates on August the 11th 2015, and charged her with theft by deception, and receiving stolen property. She was booked into the Centre County prison on Tuesday afternoon. Her bond was set at $150,000, and she remains jailed at the Centre County Correctional Facility. Apparently, she would have friends and relatives drive her to the John Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, and then tell them to wait in the lobby. She then allegedly would go into another part of the hospital, only to return hours later so as to appear as though she had received treatment. She also said she was also a patient at Geisinger Medical Center, and UPMC Medical centres. The police said none of the facilities listed her as a patient. To keep up the sham, she would even shave her head to mimic chemotherapy treatment side effects. The pageant organisers issued a statement which included the fact that "Effectively [sic] immediately, Ms. Weaver-Gates is no longer a representative of the Miss Pennsylvania U.S. International organization and will be required to return her crown and sash upon her release from being detained." She had also competed in the 'Miss24Carat2014' competition, where she represented Nottingham. But the year 2012 was a funny old year for her, because she also claimed to have suffered a whiplash injury after a road traffic accident in April 2012 in the Queensway area of Birmingham, and made an insurance claim. She later returned to modelling and was said to be "with everything going for her" ..... and she had recently started a career as a PE teacher. Oops: .... Insurance investigators obtained damning photos of her taking part in gruelling fitness tests for the beauty pageant and participating in a skydive while she claimed to be injured. The day after the crash Laban's Twitter page revealed she was preparing for a charity skydive. She later also said she was taking training for Miss England and playing for Birmingham. Six weeks after the crash she posted a picture on Twitter showing her riding a Bucking Bronco rodeo bull machine. The matter went to court and the Judge said: "The claim was fraudulent right from the start. People think this is a victimless crime, however, it uses the courts resources to facilitate the crime; it uses insurers' resources. Genuine claimants have the eye of suspicion cast on their claims. The courts have stressed repeatedly that those who commit this must receive prison sentences." Laban said she was “young, vulnerable, stupid, but also taken advantage of by a claims company”. Ms Laban and her co-defendant both admitted to the deception and pleaded guilty to contempt of court and were both jailed for two months for her part in the £3,000 car insurance scam. Nothing odd about that, except that he was under prison guard at the time, as he is serving two years for driving while disqualified, handling stolen goods and possessing a prohibited item in prison. The 24 year old model said that prison escort guards took the handcuffs off her boyfriend and let them enjoy ‘birthday sex’ in a shower at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. She said that she was visiting him while he was in hospital when this happened. During his stay, she claims she spent most of the time with the covers pulled over and lay there cuddling and watching TV, and also performed sex acts on him. “He messaged me to say, ‘I think they’d let us in showers together’. I wasn’t too sure they would because they had three screws meant to be watching and handcuffed to him constantly. In the post war era the new West Germany arose, and Ms Shubert graduated as a secretary of administration. Vickie Evans, who was a friend of Ms Leeds and who was a dancer. The press reported the arrest on August 31st, 1948, and Ms Evans was the other girl arrested, together with actor Robert Mitchum, on charges of marijuana possession. Leeds and Mitchum were found guilty in January 1949 ... they both subsequently spent sixty days in jail. Ms Evans went to court and claimed she had been framed by the police .... and the jury of eight men and four women in the superior court believed her statement that "The officers pushed me into the living rooms. I didn't smoke any marijuana I didn't know any was in the house" ... she was acquitted of conspiracy to possess marijuana and a second charge of actual possession was dropped because of lack of evidence. So far so good ..... Oops .... but later in the same year she was arrested again ... this time when Hollywood police raided an illegal gambling joint called 'Vets Club' and pulled in 27 people . She began performing in a summer theatre and festivals at the age of 13. Her first television appearance was in a bubble gum advertisement playing twins. She moved to New York at the age of 16 and her first TV appearance in a series was in 1990 in an episode of 'Brewster Place'. She then landed a series regular role in the series 'Another World' in 1991. Her breakthrough role came in 1994, when she was cast as the alien 'Kes' on 'Star Trek: Voyager'. The only other point of note was that she appeared in the movie 'American History X'. Married with a child she has retired from acting ... or perhaps the roles dried up on what was a comparatively sparse career. Oops: On 07/03/2012, she was arrested in Harriman, Tennessee, for an alleged domestic assault at 521 Sewanee St .... The charges were either dropped, not pressed, or she was adjudicated 'not guilty'. In April 2015, she was arrested in Harriman, Tennessee, and charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault in relation to an alleged speeding offence. She was spotted by Harriman police speeding on North Roane Street in her Chevrolet Cavalier, and during the pursuit she placed her car in reverse, and rammed a police car in a failed attempt to get away. They police used a “rolling roadblock” to stop her, but then she allegedly refused to exit the car and it was then that she pulled the ramming manoeuvre. She was detained in custody at the Roane County Jail, and finally bailed to appear at Roane County General Sessions Court in June 2015 with a trial expected later this year. In September 2015, Lien was arrested in Harriman, Tennessee, for two counts of 'misdemeanour exposure' after allegedly exposing herself to a child under the age of 13 during an argument with a neighbour. The argument started when Ms Lien criticised the neighbours parenting skills after her children began crying. MA row ensued in which Ms Lien used 'vulgar language'. Lien then allegedly lifted up her shirt and dropped her panties, after the neighbour told her to "mind her own business". True to recent form Ms Lien then reportedly threatened the police who arrested her, and refused to put any clothes on, as she was naked (with the exception of a bed sheet) when the police arrived. You can always rely on them to get into trouble. One thing that is a certainty is that, drugs, models and South America are a potent mix likely to end up being recorded in this thread. Juliana Lopez is a Columbian entrepreneur, student, TV Presenter and model ('Oh no, not Columbia' I hear you say .... Oh yes, you were right), but lets do her the courtesy of telling her story. She is a 22 year old beauty pageant winner, winner of the 'Miss World Medellin' title, who also played for a local soccer clubs ladies team named “Las Divas del Futbol”. She was scheduled to compete in the Miss World Medellin pageant in July 2015. Her future looked bright .... but it was a date which she missed ... Oops: She went to China to buy clothing, accessories and other souvenirs she could sell back home in her trendy boutique, and this was her second such buying trip to that country. However for reasons that we can't possibly imagine, she either decided, or was persuaded to carry drugs on her person inside the country. She was arrested on the 18th of July 2015 at the airport in Guangzhou, after a customs search, where psychoactive drugs were found hidden in her laptop computer. A crime which in China is punishable by life in prison or the death penalty. When her family lost contact with her during the trip, they contacted the Columbian embassy in China, which then confirmed her arrest. The Columbian Miss World contest, Miss Mundo, said Lopez had been dropped from the competition. Her immediate future is not bright ... She is, or perhaps was is a better term, the mayoress of the Brazilian town of Bom Jardim, which is about 275 kilometers (170 miles) southwest of Sao Luis, the capital of the tropical Maranhao state, which borders the Atlantic Ocean. She rose to this august position of leadership over the town of 39,000 people, in one of Brazil's poorest states in 2012/13, when her boyfriend (or husband, reports vary) at the time, a Mr Humberto Dantas dos Santos (aka 'Beto Rocha'), ran for mayor of Bom Jardim. But two days before the vote, he was barred from participating in the elections, because of allegations of corruption, and Ms Leite stepped in to replace him. Strangely this was allowed, and even more strangely (considering the number of 'aka's this couple employed), she won, and thus this unlikely political career was launched. Her ticket had promised the eradication of illiteracy, expansion to meet demand in high schools and kindergartens, and the installation of libraries in rural schools. Unlike in the UK (apart from London), where the role is largely ceremonial, Brazilian mayors run their towns, and as a child of the facebook generation, she took an unusual approach to the role. She immediately left town, and took up residence in the state capital Sao Luis. Her motto appeared to be 'there's an app for that' .... and she was renowned for often sending in mayoral orders to town hall staff over phone apps like 'WhatsApp'. The Brazilian media quickly nicknamed her "Mayor Showoff" after she frequently posted pictures of herself at nightclubs and parties in Sao Luis drinking champagne, and travelling in luxury cars. Oops: Her flaunting of a luxurious lifestyle that her salary couldn't afford (including expensive plastic surgery ... she promised a 'new face' in politics), plus the fact that her now ex-boyfriend was indicted on the corruption charges and was in jail, meant that the police soon widened the investigations, and Ms Leite was in their sights. They investigated claims that she had been siphoning off funds earmarked for school lunches and refurbishments, and with some $4m (£2.6m) in funds for Bom Jardim's schools 'missing', and the teachers not getting paid, the town's already precarious education system collapsed. They issued a warrant for her arrest and she went on the run for 12 days. She reportedly only agreed to turn herself in to the police in the state capital Sao Luis, after being given assurances she would not be taken to the 'infamous' (aren't they all in South America?) Pedrinhas jail, but that she would be held in a local fire station. Her lawyer says that Ms Leite inadvisably chose Mr Rocha as her main adviser, and delegated many tasks to him, and was "too young and inexperienced when she took office". We will have to wait and see whether her 'ex' is going to take all the rap alone .... or her next selfies will be from Pedrinhas jail after all. Quotes: From social media posts ... "Before I was mayor I was poor, and had a Land Rover. Now I'm in a Toyota SW4. I should have bought a better car, because thanks to God money is no longer a problem. I can buy whatever I want, spend it how I like." .... alarm bells should have been ringing for the good burghers of Bom Jardim when that was posted. St. Louis, Missouri but raised in Westport, Connecticut USA. She began her career as a child model and graduated to daytime soap TV shows aged eight when her first role was in 'Hidden Faces' in 1968. Aged eleven she gained her first theatrical film appearance in 'The Way We Live Now' in 1970. She peaked as an actress when she was given her role in the infamous 1973 horror sensation 'The Exorcist'. She got a Golden Globe and People's Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well as an Academy Award nomination for that part. She reprised her role in the sequel, 'Exorcist II: The Heretic' in 1977, and was given a Saturn Award nomination for Best Actress of 1978. Sadly the role had defined her forever and although she appeared in a number of other movies, she never gained the heights that her first movie promised. She has since largely made her 74 credit career with a succession of successful but low-budget horror and exploitation films such as women-in-prison film 'Chained Heat' in 1983, and the femme fatale vigilante action film 'Savage Streets' in 1984 and also the Exorcist send-up 'Repossessed' in 1990. Apart from her animal charity work she also still does cameo roles and she also makes frequent appearances at horror fan conventions to celebrate the legacy of 'The Exorcist'. Oops: Not unnaturally 'The Exorcist' was deeply disliked by the religious right in the USA, and she received death threats after it premiered. Warner Brothers hired the police to live with the Blair family 24 hours a day, for 6 months, but stopped once promotional work on the movie was done. However threats from fanatics and religious zealots continued, including after the release of the film's sequel. Her family hid her out with friends, and the original threat makers were never caught. She was introduced to drugs and cocaine usage while battling depression, and a drinking problem following her parents divorce and a relationship break up. She bought cocaine with friends when she flew to Florida to attend funerals for members of the band 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' in 1977. She kept in touch with the drug dealers when she went home. She later stated that she was more interested in buying some pedigree puppies which the dealers were also selling, and that she was arranging to buy one when she rang them from her home. However when she went for the puppy, she also bought some drugs .... the DEA swooped ,and along with 30+ others, she was arrested. She was charged with conspiracy to buy the cocaine from Florida to sell in Connecticut. Police searched her purse, found amphetamines, and then charged her with possession. The possession charge was dropped, and the conspiracy charge was reduced. She was ordered to serve three years probation, pay a $5,000 fine, and make at least twelve major public appearances to tell young people about the dangers of drug abuse. The much-publicised drug bust caused Linda to be unofficially blacklisted in Hollywood for major roles. Quotes: "After my arrest my career went down faster than the Titanic."
