The Visit. I never saw this at the cinema because I'd gone off M. Night Shyamalan, but that was my bad. It's a horror film that delivers. Never mind The Big Bad Wolf...it's grandma you have to worry about.

The Mule (2018) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mule_(2018_film) I don't know if Clint is a great actor or if he didn't have to pretend he is a feeble old man. Really saddened me to watch this icon of American film be a wobbly old man. The movie has great actors in it, Michael Pena, Laurence Fishburne, Bradley Cooper, Andy Garcia, etc......didn't really notice them that much. I thought Geoffrey Lewis made a cameo appearance near the beginning, but found out I was wrong as he died in 2017. Different old man I guess. Surprised that Clyde the Orangutan didn't make an appearance. Read that Clint was 88 during the filming of this movie. He does look like a weathered ancient husk of the legend he is.
Movie just saddens me, I am an old man watching an older man totter off into the sunset.......not with a bang, but with a whimper. The Green Book (2018) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Book_(film) I thought Viggo Mortensen had let himself go to pot - at the beginning of the film. Afterwards, I am guessing he ate like hell to get himself to look like a fat slob for the role. He did well. Mahershala Ali was excellent as well. I was happy to see Principal Figgins from Glee (Iqbal Theba) in a major film role - a bit small - but good to see him working. Give it 3 of 5. Kinda formulaic Tried to watch Vice (2018) but fell asleep twice - will try to watch it when its apparently less than action packed material keeps me awake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vice_(2018_film) |

The History Of Time Travel
Imagine that you're channel surfing, and you happen upon a program showing on one of the many history-oriented cable channels...a documentary about the creation of the first time machine. You start watching out of curiosity...but as you watch it progress, something strange happens... This is the feeling you will get when you watch this clever little "mockumentary" about the invention of the first time traveling machine...and its many political and moral implications. Directed and written by Ricky Kennedy, the "documentary" details the feat with interviews and news reel footage. It looks fairly believable, and it certainly starts mundane and slowly, but something happens as you go deeper. The interviewees are the same...the names, places...but things keep changing...often right under your nose. It is the telling of what MIGHT happen. It's a warning about what MIGHT occur. It's a billboard of danger about creating something we as a planet aren't ready for...much the same as we have with nuclear energy. Sure, the acting by little-knowns isn't spot-on, and there is a little silliness about it...but it makes a damn good point. No spoilers, but in the end, you'll nod your head in approval. God bless the Indies...sometimes. B https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3727120/

I finally watched Vice (2018) without falling asleep. Christian Bale is really low keyed in his performance. Amy Adams shines as the women who kicks the arse of her drunk low achieving husband and makes him into one of the world's most powerful people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vice_(2018_film)
Sam Rockwell really isn't in the film that much. The film does make Cheney look as if he invaded Iraq for the oil companies. Too bad that a large segment of the US population wanted to kill Saddam Hussein and his spawn, even a bad excuse was good enough. The rare film that shows the woman makes the man. 4 of 5 - worth watching - even if it is just to make the woman near you feel powerful. |

Figures in a Landscape (1970)
Very enigmatic film starring Robert Shaw and a young Malcolm McDowell, on the run why and where are never explained, amazing scenery and in a pre CGI era the actors do there own stunts like going down a near vertical cliff with their arms tied behind their backs, and getting up close and personal with a helicopter. |
