i like dogs
I like them too. I have had a chihuahua; a german shepherd. Right now we have a miniature dachshund, a cairn terrier, and two pound hounds, one a beagle/basset mix and the other what I call a lasset--a lab/basset mix--with the long body of the lab and the short legs of the basset.

Husky, of course. Not enough can be written about these animals. But don't keep one in a city apartment, or you are programming disaster. Make them work, or they will find something else to do
But the dog that makes me collapse with laughter is the Great Dane. "Big, stupid and lovable" doesn't do them justice. You can actually keep these in city apartments, believe it or not - just make sure you dry their mouths after they drink, otherwise your walls will be full of splatter |

I had a dog (she died 20 years ago and I still miss her) who was a Labrador type, but smaller (I think she had some Whippet in her; she certainly had the shark's mouth syndrome, which meant that she had to angle her head to pick food up from the floor). She was black, and had fairly big ears that did not stick up.
Now I can't really get on with any dog who is not just like her. My brother had one who was very similar - sticky-up ears, a bit smaller - and it took me a few years before I could really accept her. But I haven't really taken to either of my mother's dogs: mainly because they were/are the wrong colour, I think. Black seems to be for me to right colour for a dog. Yes, I know, I know. I do not have this trouble with cats. Last edited by Aubrey; May 29th, 2011 at 08:58 AM.. Reason: re-wording |

I too owned a golden retriever. The dog has been gone for more than 3 yrs yet not a day goes by that I don't miss my dog.Yes they can be a pain in the ass at times,it's like having a 2 yr old for the dogs life.Someone once told me that if you don't want a dog at your heels everytime you get up from the couch then don't buy a golden. One thing about owning a dog, they are always there tails wagging when you come home whether you've had a good day or bad only a dog asks for little in return but food water and to be loved.

I grew up with Staffordshire Bull Terriers, who get a bad press when idiotic owners let them do what ever they want. Staffies need a firm hand; unfortunately they don't always get it from some of the clowns who own them. Staffies can be a very loyal, loving dog but in the wrong hands they are wild and can be very vicious.
I own a Jack Russell terrier, who is 10 but behaves as if he's about 2 or 3. I also like West Highland Terriers, Labradors and Llasa Apsos.
