Grabbing sample movies off of the net

Occasionally while browsing on various porn movie sites, I like to save a small movie sample for later viewing if it tickles my fancy. In days of yore it was easy enough to look in the temporary IE cache and pull out files in various formats - but in recent times I just don't see movies in there, and even running a full search based on file extension and size doesn't turn anything up. I have Windows 8.1, and I don't know if this OS has anything to do with it, or if there are more protected streaming technologies showing up lately.

Anyway, could someone give me a brief rundown on the latest tricks, and maybe some tools to grab videos? I was looking around at some video grabbing tools months ago, but most, it turned out, would only download from "approved" websites, and one almost gave me a malware infestation.

I thought maybe some of out more tech-savvy members might be able to help, and show me what to do. It's annoying not to be able to do this.

The files aren't always stored with proper video extensions in the cache. You may find them with .tmp or they may simply be a long string of numbers without an extension. When you look through the cache look at the size of the items listed. If you see a file size that may be your video then add an extension like .flv, .avi, etc and try it in your player.

Open your cache viewer before you start the video and do an occasional page refresh. The file you're viewing will change size as it's saved.

I don't use IE, but in FireFox you can name an external viewer to handle video. It is simple enough to then have the external program save the file.

I have IECacheView, but I don't see any new files showing up even when I refresh and sort by the last accessed column. Same trouble even if I use File Explorer to view the cache folder. It's like nothing is there. But the downloaded movie file, regardless of extension, has to be SOMEWHERE...

I have found files in

c:\documents and settings\<user name>\local settings\temp
c:\documents and settings\<user name>\local settings\temporary internet files
c:\documents and settings\<user name>\my documents\my videos

Where <user name> is your account name.

Most web pages put the name of the file in the address/location bar. You could try a search for that file name.

If they hide the address, do a right click on the web page and select "view page source". Now do a search, usually found under Edit->Find, on any text which may be near the video on the web page. For example if the video description says "Celeste does anal" search for that phrase. You should now see some html script, look for items like <div id="player"> and <a href="http://...cdn.com/...somefilename.mp4"> the cdn.com is Content Delivery Network, the somefilename.mp4 is the file name you'll be searching for and its type.

I use flash and video add-on in firefox to grab online clips, dont know if IE lets you add that?, before i started using flash and video i used to do what bill mentioned for grabbing videos from temp folder.

So I managed to find the file in a different folder with the extension DAT, but when I rename the file with either MP4, FLV or F4V extensions neither Media Player or VLC Player will open it.

Any suggestions on what other extensions to try? It's a 125 megabyte file running at 720 in HD, several minutes long.

What do you guys use for addons in Firefox, and how do I add them?

EDIT: I popped open the file with a hex editor, and found a reference to MP4, but like I said, the file doesn't open when renamed with that extension.

Where is the index.dat file located

And then, where is the index.dat file located in Windows 7 | 8? Index.dat are files hidden on your computer that contain all of the Web sites that you have ever visited. Every URL, and every Web page is listed there. To access it, you will have to type in Explorers address bar the following location and click go:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\ Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Only then will you be able to see the index.dat file. Conclusion ? The Content.IE5 folder is super hidden!

.DAT file means data file. Open it with notepad to you may know what kind of extension it is. Then change your extension.

It has internal mp4 references but renaming it to xxxxx.mp4 results in a fail. Won't play. I wonder if some of these sites are using some kind of clever trick with a script and special codecs so the video you DL will only run in their online player. Looking at the source page for this, this is what I am guessing at.

The file was not created in the temporary internet files folder either, but rather in a users/usename/appdata/low/xxxxxxxx temp folder way down in the structure. WTF?

I swear, Microsoft keeps getting more and more hostile towards the end user when it comes to doing basic stuff on your PC. I just found out that the old windows help is not even included on this OS, for Christ's sake.
