When a man is accused of sex crimes he is guilty until proven innocent and how do you prove a negative - usually you can't.

I still detest Mr Kavanaugh for other reasons and I feel no sympathy. But if he was indeed falsely accused, he should receive a full apology in public from all the people who made a public parade of their opposition to him as an accused rape suspect. The woman who made a malicious and false accusation, if indeed this is what happened, should go to prison and not for a short time. She will probably be very unpopular with other female inmates.
It would seem to me that given the statute of limitations has expired on any rape charges, it is silly to prosecute a foolish woman caught up in the feeding frenzy. I did find Professor Ford and the Yalies credible, but really irrelevant to the issues at hand. What is distressing to me is the whole shit storm distracted the much larger inquiry away from the many judicial opinions Brett Kavanaugh wrote while on the court of appeals which contained radical new interpretations of constitutional law. That and the multiple times he lied to the committee.

Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Clarence Thomas are the very sort of judicial activists that conservatives have been railing against for years. The difference is that these men are likely to try and roll back as much as 175 years of judicial consensus. I disagree with many liberal justices opinions, but do not wish to have our civil rights returned to a robber baron days structure.

You are right about the threat posed to democracy by biased and partisan judges such as Kavanaugh. We have already seen an example in the really contemptible Citizens United (corrupt oligarchs united) ruling. I note that it is not yet confirmed that Professor Ford bore false witness against Justice Kavanaugh. But if this is what happened, then absolutely she should go to prison because that is a really serious crime. In Britain we call this "conspiracy to pervert the course of justice".

This letter relates to another allegation against Judge Kavanaugh and has nothing to do with Mrs. Ford's allegations.

According to media reports the FBI made no real attempt to contact the many witnesses claiming misconduct by Brett Kavanaugh. There is no reason to believe her testimony was false, but the claims of some others have been called into dispute.

Really, what does what happened at a bunch of teenage and college parties have to do with anything? We had a guy in college who freaked out after an acid trip, became too paranoid to live in the dorms, and camped out for a year in a small hillside grove on campus. He later became a well respected politician in Southern California. I also know a girl who was a big time slut in high school who went on to a distinguished medical career. People grow up, settle down, and coach their daughters sports teams.

I agree, Brian. I had hoped that someone on the committee would have shown some curiosity about his bizarre ideas*. Beyond that, his behavior toward the committee would have disqualified any prior candidate. Crying, yelling, personally insulting several members of the committee demonstrated what we have suspected of Republicans in this time of Trump--There is no shit they will not eat.

*--It would have been informative to have asked how his current view of the American president differs, if at all, from the former German policy of "Der Fuhrer hat immer Recht."

Unfortunately, I think that false accusations of rape are not uncommon.

I once knew a guy that happened to, they went on a date, had dinner and got tipsy and ended up in bed. A few days later she called the cops and said he raped her. I have no idea why.

He got taken to the police station and grilled, but they let him go, probably smelled the bullshit in the complaint.

This sort of thing is what undermines the credibility of genuine rape victims.

In practice, bowlinggreen, I think your example shows the opposite. Virtually all rape prosecutions are based on forensics. Your friend's case never got beyond the preliminary interrogation stage.

The handful of wrongful rape convictions in the U.S. are almost all the result of racism. For almost 400 years sex between white women and Black men has been coming to the attention of our criminal justice system, and it rarely ends well for the Black man.

I had the television on in the front room on the BBC Parliament channel and I could hear in my backroom the gist of Mr Trump's speech and the speech given by Republican candidate Ron DeSantis, who is running for Governor of Florida. I never heard such a pack of bollocks in all my life as these two spouted, but the really depressing part was the idiots cheering for this crap.

Here is a taste of Ron DeSantis.
  • We have the strongest economy we've had in years - which must be why we are ramping up the deficit in tax cuts as a so-called "stimulus "; starting trade wars with America's main trade partners and doing everything we can to creat a rise in the crude oil price.
  • We are standing foursquare behind our ally, the State of Israel. - the same Israel which is strengthening trade links with China and disclosing American intellectual property to the Chinese. Not a friend I would want.
  • We have strong Constitutionalists was being put on our courts, including the Supreme Court. - Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh? What those two know the US Constitution could be writ large in thick pencil on a mosquito's bum.
  • We have ended the disastrous Iran deal - and in the process laid the ground for a nuclear Iran and bitterly alienated America's traditional allies, Britain not the least, plus fucking off Russia and China who had set aside normal differences and cooperated with the USA on this treaty. What an achievement.
Staggering. Why are there so many stupid people in America that this kind of crap gets cheered?

Mr Trump then spoke and assured us all that the wall is coming along fine, its just that he is getting fund appropriations a bit at a time and will start to build the wall only when all the funds are received.

Pull the other one - it's got bells on.

Lots to cover in these past posts. First the judicial lean on the right, sure you dont like Thomas and Gorsuch and kavanaugh but what's with the insanity behind RBG? Shes just as slanted as them, as is Sotomayor and the Breyer. Also we can all agree trump is an ass, I dont know anyone who thinks "man he is so honest and great" hes not. He is tho less of a douche than Baldwin, that guy is has been forever will be a piece of trash.
Now scoundrel maybe it's the fact the mullahs in Iran hate america and we see that all the time, or their hate message of death to america struck and nerve and people got tired of it but I'm of with screwing them. On the flip side of this I think we need to take a hard look at the saudis and there new found idealism, which is all smoke and mirrors as far as I can tell. Sorry tangent, it would seem since the e.u. first becoming the master of all in Europe that things have been shakey. Maybe I'm not one for the global government ideology. Closing not goes back to jerk one or jerk 2 as compared about my post earlier, surprise ending they both suck.

RBG is a senile old bat and would have retired if Hillary had won. The problem is that both sides are playing games and really good middle of the road judicial minds don't stand a chance.

The mullahs have good reason to hate us and myriad reasons to distrust us. Yet, they made a deal and kept their part. To repeat moving towards Iran puts pressure on the Saudis to dial back their subversion of neighboring regimes and subsidizing terrorists. It is the Saudi backed Sunni groups who have actually attacked us. Have you forgotten that the 9/11 bunch were Saudi nationals? The al qaeda, the Taliban and ISIS are all their clients.

More importantly, Iran has a cosmopolitan civilization dating back to Cyrus the Great. Their brand of Islam is not the ignorant fundamentalism of the desert Arabs. How quickly would the Chinese become good guys again if we make a new trade deal? Stalin was even "Good Old Uncle Joe" during World War II. Take the mullahs rhetoric with a grain of salt. Besides, to a culture putting submission to Allah's will our soulless materialism is profoundly evil.

The left are nothing but a bunch of crybabies. Even though Congress tends to switch sides in regard to party control on average about every eight years or so the SCOTUS hasn't seen a liberal majority since the early seventies. The liberals feel it's their "turn". And yes, they would like to stack the court just as much as the right would. It's just that they demonize the right for wanting to do it. Hypocritical, self righteous pussies.
